Prologue

"Jess, we have to hurry up! Jakes going to be here in a couple of minutes." I say to Jess, my best friend, who's wrapping my dark brown locks against the hot curling iron.

"Mckenzie, I'm sure jake won't mind if were a couple of minutes late. I want to make you look stunning." She says releasing the curl before applying a spritz of hair spray. "Okay all done!" She says spinning me around to face the mirror.

My long brown hair hangs over my shoulders, cascading down the side of my body. My tight black cocktail dress hugs all my curves showing off my body. My makeup, which Jess did highlights all of my faces features especially my bright green eyes.

Jess, on the other hand, is wearing a tight long sleeve white dress, her shoulder length blonde hair is straightened and frames her face. Her bright blue eyes are almost electric due to the black background of eyeshadows.

The car horn echoes through the house as we scramble for our purses and shoes. Once downstairs I grab my red lipstick and apply it in front of the mirror in the front hallway. Just then another loud honk from outside rings through the house as place the lipstick tube back in my purse.

Jess opens the door as the cool breeze blows against my body making me shiver as I close the door behind us. Jakes red mustang is siting in the driveway, a smile on his face when we start walking towards the car.

"Hey babe." I say hopping in the car placing a kiss on his lips as Jess coughs behind us.

"Please enough pda, save that for the party where you can get a room. Oh yeah! Where exactly is this party?" She asks as Jake pulls out of the driveway.

"A couple of streets over." Jake says, his husky voice filling the air. His blonde hair is spiked as his dark grey shirt topped off with a leather jacket shows off his muscles with each turn of the steering wheel. "I think I'm just going to park over here." He says pointing to a spot between two cars.

You can hear the faint beating of drums and smell the weed and cigarettes in the air. Jake unlocks the car before coming around to my side opening the door for me. The cool air greets my skin causing me to shiver. Jake notices taking his jacket off before draping it over my shoulders.

"Oh my goodness." Jess complains after we walked a block. "These shoes are killer." She says leaning against a tree taking off her nude heels. I laugh as she starts running down the street screaming "the pavement is really cold!"

Jake wraps his arm across my waist pulling me against his warm body. "Did I mention how beautiful you look tonight?" He says placing a kiss on my forehead.

"No you did not, thank you. How did I get so lucky? How did I ever deserve someone so great as you?" I ask placing a kiss on his lips.

After five more minutes of walking we finally approach the house. Drunk teenagers litter the streets and yard as I feel Jake tighten his grip on my waste. A guy sitting on the stairs offers us a cigarette, we refuse and continue inside the house.

As you step foot in the house the smell of weed and cigarettes greets you like a brick wall. A haze lingers around the house as red solo cups are all over the floor. The living room is filled with people dancing, music filling the air, the bass causing your body to thump with each strum and hit of the drum. We lost Jess in the mess of people as Jake drags me behind him, weaving his way around the cluttered bodies.
