Chapter One: Once Upon A Drunken Night
"Mckenzie." My mothers voice rings from the basement as the sound of footsteps travel down the hallway "somebody is here for you." She says opening my door to stand in front of my bed pulling at my sheets.
"Mom!" I grumble. "Just tell them I'll call them later please." I beg snuggling deeper into my bed, pulling the covers over my face until my blanket is past my nose.
"Oh honey trust me I would, but." She responds opening my blinds causing the sunlight to come pouring into my small bedroom from the large window in my wall. I let out a groan and shield my face and eyes with the closest pillow I could find.
Who are you? The devil!
"Mckenzie, they are our new neighbours, so please clean yourself up, make yourself presentable, and come downstairs once your ready." She exclaims, her tone of voice sounding a lot harsher, she raises her eyebrows waiting for my answer as I nod my head.
Closing the door behind her she exits my room leaving me burning in the sunlight like a vampire. My eyes glance towards my white alarm clock perched on my bedside table, The bright green letters reading 12:28.
I groan as I pull myself out of my bed before slipping on my pair of white fuzzy slippers as the legs of my pyjama pants reach the cool hardwood floor dragging behind me with each step I take.
I flick on the light of my bathroom as pain floods my head making me sick to my stomach as I bend down in front of the toilet.
I think I may have had a little to much to drink last night.
I sit on the ground leaning against the bathtub as I try to recall the events that happened last night. Unfortunately, I remember nothing, I don't even know how I managed to get home.
Opening the cupboard in my bathroom, I pull out the container of Advil's before popping two of the blue pills into my mouth swallowing them with a glass of water.
I quickly brush my teeth and throw my hair knotted hair into a ponytail wanting to meet the neighbours as quickly as possible so I can escape back into my bedroom and escape from the outside world so that I can binge watch greys anatomy.
I hear chatter coming from the kitchen as the steps creak with each one of my steps. Rounding the corner I am tempted to run back up to my room and change but it's to late. They saw me. Wait correction, he saw me.
He runs a hand through his short brown hair as his piercing blue eyes meet mine holding the gaze for a few seconds before roaming my body as a smirk tugs on the corners of his mouth. Just then I remember what I was wearing.
My favourite pink checkered pyjamas and a baggy oversized t- shirt. Jeez Mckenzie, what a great first impression your making.
I attempt to make my way towards the kitchen to avoid any further embarrassment until my mom realizes I have made my presence.
"Oh Mckenzie how nice of you to join us!" My mother says waving me over as I make my way back towards the living room where the mystery boy, and whom I assume is his mother are sitting on the brown love seats perched in the corner of the room.
"Mckenzie! I told you to make yourself a little more put together" she whispers in my ear. I am really regretting not taking my mothers advice.
"How very nice to meet you Mckenzie. I'm Mrs. Jackson but please just call me Cynthia!" Grabbing my hand she firmly shakes it. "Oh and how could I forget, this is my son Tyler." She adds in pointing to her son as he flashes me a grin.
"Nice to meet you both!" I respond. "But if you don't mind I'm hungry some I'm going to eat some breakfast."
My mother sends me a glare my way as I pull myself up off the couch and towards the kitchen. I needed to get away from them as quickly as possible before I would make a fool of myself. Walking across the soft carpet I hear footsteps behind me as I approach the fridge.
