"Alrighty. Just straight east?""Yeah."
I glanced over at Historia. She was smiling slightly and staring out the window, chin on her hand. Her pajama bottoms were still on, and she had tied her oversized t-shirt into a knot at one corner.
God, was I lucky.
I sighed happily, and turned my eyes back to the road. It was early, the sun had only just risen, and I felt a strange sense of peace as I navigated the streets. The sky was a pleasing pale yellow, with hints of night still fading at the edges. It was perfect. Too perfect. Like a scene from a movie. I almost expected to have an out-of-body experience and watch our car drive down the I-10 while credits rolled.
Historia snapped me back to reality. She had plugged her phone into the car, and was playing She Had the World, by Panic! At the Disco.
"This would be the song." I mused out loud.
"Yeah..." She murmured in reply. "It does feel kinda like a movie..."
And so we headed east, into the rising sun, listening to great music and just being together. Just... Entirely happy. It was nice. I love those moments in life. So might say it's not healthy to feel disconnected from yourself, but I thoroughly enjoy the feeling. Watching yourself from a distance, hearing music in your head, and just feeling happy.
Looking back on it, those moments have always had dashes of melancholy. Usually surprising amounts. But I still love it. If I could, I would freeze that moment, and never stop living it. I wish I could make that serenity last forever, that fulfilling happiness.
I wish I could still feel happy.
