Axl and I ended up just talking about books, music, and just about anything we could engage in a conversation in. He was really polite and we realized that we had a lot in common.
"Hahaha... I really liked 'Fight Club' too," I said.
"Palahnuik was a genius!" Axl commented.
My phone vibrated in my pocket. I checked to see that it was a text from Zo.
'can u bring da milk?' I read to myself.
'Sure.' I texted back.
"Axl, I need to bring some milk over to Zoë's for the gathering later today... I'll swing by later so that we can go together," I told him. Axl nodded.
Some other guy showed up just then.
"Yo, Axl. I'm taking over this shift," the guy said. Axl hopped over the counter and he handed his vest over to the other person. The other employee gave me a dirty look.
"Girlfriend?" he spat out.
"Just a friend," I answered with a smile, trying to lighten up the mood.
"Hmm..." he let out with discontent.
Axl and I walked out the store. The weather was hot and the sun blazed unforgivingly.
"See you later?" he said awkwardly.
I nodded and waved.
We both parted ways, going in opposite directions. I walked about 30 feet when I saw something glittering on the sidewalk. I walked closer, only to see that it was a set of keys. I picked it up...
"What the...?" I muttered. I jingled the keys, no one was around me... Right?
But out of nowhere, I heard a groan.
I turned and saw, another zombie. Surprisingly, I wasn't surprised.
"Keys..." it moaned. Blood trickled out from its mouth.
I clutched the keys harder in my fist.
It threw a punch at me.
"Oof," I let out.
I clutched the keys tighter and gained some strength. I took the fist and punched the zombie the chest.
"Rawr!" it let out.
I twisted my fist with the key buried in its chest. Just then, a brilliant glow of light shone and the zombie screamed before falling to the ground.
I looked around to see absolutely no one. I kicked the corpse into a fallen garbage can that happened to be nearby. I released my fist and removed the keys for a better look. There was one ring with three keys that hung from it. I had used one of them to stab the zombie, but they all looked clean. No blood stains or anything. I looked at the hand that had clenched the keys minutes ago. A small crest proudly stamped itself into my hand. I stared at the crest and smirked before walking again.
