Passage From Below.

The erie night crept upon me as I sauntered through the deserted park. My feet were making silent contact on the leafy ground, as my breathing shot clouds of white in front of me. The swigs were restless with the chill wind of the night, and the moon was casting a glare off the small puddles from the recent rain. There was a tunnel up ahead, and inside the fog was rising a few inches off the ground. I didn't want to take my chances walking through the dimly lit underpass, but it was my only way home. My only way out.

My feet picked up the pace, making little splashing sounds as they hit the damp ground, the wind thrashing faster, making the swings rock back and forth. The distant cry of a baby sent chills up my spine, and my teeth clatter. I heard a sob and looked behind me, almost in the tunnel now, to see a small boy sitting in a puddle, tears streaming from his strange pale face.

I walked back over to him, slowly showing I was of no harm, and squatted down next to him.

"Hey honey. Where's your mommy?" I asked, my voice sweet. Hoping to convey innocence. He looked up and his face went a deathly white. His mouth twisting in inhumanly ways. He made eye contact with me and I fell on my butt. He was walking closer, his 3'4'' no where near me 5'9'' but he seemed to get bigger and bigger. My eyes widened in horror as his pale blues eyes turned a scary black. All black.

"She's dead!" He screamed at me, while he kept getting closer and closer, and then all of sudden. As fast as it happened. It was gone. He was gone. And I was shaking in my boots. Crying recklessly, getting up, brushing off my sopping jeans, and racing through the tunnel to get home. The tears were blinding my eyes, and I tipped on a branch, scraping my bare arm up. My white tank top now covered in blood, and dirty water. Up ahead I saw the distant lights of new york city, and I ran faster through the stretch of woods that separated me from my home. And the tunnel. I heard a twig crack and I slammed on my brakes. Looking around me, knowing it was stupid to stop. But doing it anyways.

"Hello?" I asked my voice extremely shaky. "Is someone there?" I asked again after ten minutes of no answer. I was about to start walking when the air suddenly got colder, if that was possible, and my breath stopped. I felt an icy tingle on my neck, and I closed my eyes. My mind churning for answers. Logical answers think!

"Come play with me." Something said to my side, and I let out an ear piercing scream that made the birds fly up over the trees in font of the moon that look close enough to reach. Causing an effect creepier than whatever was going on right now. I started running at a speed even I didn't know I was capable of, and made it to the edge of the forest, I looked back at the spot I was just in to see the little boy standing there, looking at me with blue eyes. Smiling a sincere smile. I was disgusted and bolted home. Once I saw the familiar apartment building, for once I was actually happy to be here. I ran up the six flights of winding stares, the florescent lights making my body feel warmer. My wet converse leaving stains of brown water on the stairs behind me. I was walking through the crappy looking hallway until I reached the grey, broken door of room six oh six. And opened it up slightly, relieved when I saw my dad passed out on the couch along with my sister Annie. I tip-toed past the colossal mess of toys and baby items, for my little brother Andrew, and made it to my room without waking anyone. I really wanted to take a shower but I knew that if I did, I would wake all in the house, so I simply went into the bathroom, and wet a towel and scrubbed off my body, hoping it was good enough for tonight. I took of my wet clothes and slipped on my boxer shorts, and sports bra, and slid into bed. The warm fuzzy sheets reminding me of my mom.

I closed my eyes, hoping for a dreamless sleep, and for once god answered my prayers.
