Few elementalists study the arts of heart stones and are able to give detail, but the general identification is quite simple.

Purity

The heart stone has a transparency to it. The more transparent, the more pure a person was. If their heart stone is opaque they weren't very pure. Lepitana generally have the most transparent heart stones.

Size:

Sizes basically symbolize the size of their heart. Not the actual physical size, but how much they loved in life. Bigger hearts had much to live for, while smaller hearts had little to live for. Ephemera often have the smallest heart stones because they keep themselves contained.

Fragility:

Fragility is how fragile their heart was. A heart stone with many cracks reveals that their life was filled with sorrow and grief. A heart stone that is solid represents a life filled with joy.

Shade:

The darker the color, the more powerful the person was. The lighter the color, the weaker the person was. Lepitana are also considered weak because of their color to start. Each element has a different base color, Ephemera is green, Atrica is blue, Ortera is brown, Embra, is red, Tenara is grey or sometimes yellow, and Lepitana is white. People misjudge the color and not the shade, so lepitana is labeled as weak.

Shape:

Shape is a representation of their intentions. Jagged edges on a heart stones represents bad intentions and more smooth edges represents good intentions. Also, the angles of the corners tells something about their motives as well, but only the experts can tell you that kind of stuff.
