Chapter 3: Dummkopf

When we got in to the class room everyone was looking at Liesel, wondering who this new stranger was. But nobody asked her, and she didn't do anything.
"I see you're new, tell us who you are please"
Liesel didn't say anything.
Does she ever speak?
I thought she was embarrassed so I took the initiative.
"She's Herr and Frau Hubermanns new daughter"
"I didn't ask you Steiner"
Well that went well..
" Komm, write your name"
The teacher said to Liesel.

She walked slowly to the blackboard.
"Komm child, we don't have all day"
Liesel took a white pen and wrote an X.
And another X. 
Everyone laughed at her
The teacher hushed them down.
But when she wrote another X again she got enough.
"Alright go to your seat"
I felt so bad for her, to be laughed at because she couldn't write.

At the break everyone stood in a circle around her and yelled.
I didn't hear what they said so I walked closer.

"Dummkopf! Dummkopf! Dummkopf! "  Everyone yelled.
Then Franz Deutscher ( the boy who teases everyone) walked over to her with a book in his hands.
"What's the matter dummkopf?? Can't you read?! " Then he opened the book and pointed at it "read one word! just one word! "
Then he couldn't say anything anymore, cuz Liesel just punched him really hard in his face so he fell to the ground with a bleeding nose. Everyone chocked, including me!
I didn't know she could fight!
And then suddenly everyone yelled "fight fight fight!" Over and over again.
Liesel loosed control and flew over him with punches . And soon she hit him so hard that he almost lost his consciousness.
"She's killing him!!" Some girl shouted.
And the teacher came rushing out through the door.
"Silly girl!!" She said and gave Liesel a watchen.
After school I ran to Liesel to walk her home.
"I bet that wasn't your first fight" i said "Franz Deutscher hasn't got a beat like that since he beated Tommy Müllers lunchbox"
"Franz Deutcher doesn't sound very smart" she said
"He's the dumbest kid in school , but he shaves" I said.

"Do you remember how to get home? " i asked Liesel
"Just because I can't read doesn't make me stupid"  she said annoyed
"Alright I will follow you then"

We walked a few streets in silence until it went a little akward.
So I started to get her talkin to me.
"You could try to be in our soccer team, you know"

"Listen, you should probably stop trying to be my friend, because I won't be here long enough " she said

What?

"Why not?" I said confused
"I'm running away, that's why not" she sounded very annoyed now , am I that annoying? Well I want her to be my friend , I really do, and I'm not giving up!
"Where to?" I asked
"None of your business!"
Still not giving up
"Well, let me know when! "
"Why?"
"So I can come with you!"  I said with a smile .
"You don't understand , I'm serious"
" I have to find my mother"

"Frau Hubermann?" I asked
"Nein dummkopf! My real mother! " she said with a little smile on her face.
"Great! I'd like to meet her!"  I said and dropped the ball I had in my hand and sat down on the treet ready to race her.
She just stood and looked at me like crazy.
"What are you doing now?" She asked
"Racing you?" Wasn't it obvious?
"I'll bet a kiss I can beat you! "  I said to make her wanna race me.
She looked confused
" why would I wanna kiss you?"
" i don't know, why does that matter? I'm the one who's going to win, just to the end of the street!"

"And what if I win? " she said

" you don't have to kiss me"

"Ever?"

It made me feel a little bit sad , just a little, but she won't be here long enough she said so is it that bad to get a kiss from me just once ?

" what do you care? You're not sticking around right?" I said

She suddenly began to run.

"Hey! Saumensch! " I shouted while I started to run.
I ran faster than her so I almost ran past her, when she pushed me aside, so did I.
When we  turned right to another street there where too much ice so we fell and slided away onto a snowhill.

We were laying  some seconds to just have our time to laugh, and then I looked at her and remembered!
"You cheated!"
"So what?"

We stood up

"I beat you!"
"No you did not, it was a draw"
"Draw means, I get the kiss!"
"You can stick your kiss!"

Ouch..

I looked down at her clothes and saw how dirty they got , and then I remembered she lives with a volcano aka Frau Hubermann.

"Oh my god.." I said
"She's going to kill you"

Liesel looked down at her dirty clothes confused.
"Who?"
