michaels POV
I began to panic. I had received the warning.
they began a while back, these warnings. maybe three or four years ago. I still remember the first time it happened; the silhouettes being a faze, almost as if it was a dream.
Almost.
I remember being confused at first, it was like it was a vision. a flash flickered in front of my eyes, before I watched the scenario unfold. there were two men in balaclavas muttering words to each other that I couldn't distinguish.
the shady looking figures casually strolled down the pathway, heads down, clearly attempting to divert any attention they had captured, from themselves.
that's when the blurry figure appeared, turning the corner a little further down the street. the 'warning' gave no indication to who it was, the entirety of the person being unrecognisable. as they drew closer to the men, I realised that something was seriously wrong.
all was still, before chaos began.
I don't want to go into detail, but to this day I still remember exactly what had happened. they attacked her, and the poor figure didn't survive.
obviously back then I didn't know. I didn't know about the warnings.
I remember that I opened my eyes to find myself sitting back in math class, my teacher droning on about circle theorems. i dismissed it as a nightmare, although I could recall every detail of it, as if it was too clear to be one. I concluded I must've fallen asleep in my lesson, how was I supposed to know any better? i hadn't slept too much the previous night, it all added up.
oh how I was wrong.
it was the next day when i got the phone call that made realisation hit me. that what I saw wasn't a nightmare, but some sort of vision.
I will never forgive myself for what happened.
for I had received the warning. a warning that I received 24 hours in advance. I had 24 hours to change the future.
but I didn't. and I will forever pay the price.
the price of losing my mum.
