"LET ME GO."
Strong white lights.
"STOP IT! NO, STOP!"
Empty walls and blank floors.
"LET ME GO, STOP, STOP, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
Cold metal. Cold. Cold shackles. Rubbery hands. Masked voices.
Cold.
Blinding.
Pain.
"Stop moving"
Responded one of them.

∆Cafeteria∆

~Carl's POV~

Lunch wasn't very gourmet. But it was as fancy as it could get in the conditions the planet was in.

Multiple round, gray tables were scattered across the floor of the cafeteria. The wall diagonal to the entrance doors was the cooking area. Not actually a wall, but you understand what I mean. I hope. The place was chatty and lively, just how it was expected. The ages of children were surprisingly very low, making anyone question how and who were able to reproduce in such a way that was safe.
Though it reminded me such a person who did.

"Hey Sheriff, you okay there?", Elie's voice burst through my thoughts that had begun trapping me in depression again. "Oh, yeah of course, pfft, why wouldn't I be?", I lied. The raven-haired boy gave me a worried, but in some possible way sarcastic, look. Adding the comment, "Uhhuh, okay", to his facial expression.

He returned back to the scratching of his pencil on the black leather sketch book he was previously absorbed in. I took another bite of the bacon and cheese squished together in a folded piece of bread. "What are doing there?", I curiously asked, mouth half full after partially swallowing some of my bite. "Speak without your mouth full, Sheriff", he responded, not answering my question. Doing as I was told, I repeated my question and awaited an answer, which was interrupted by the small voice of a little girl.

"Are you going to eat your food, El-El?", she said, tugging at Elie's sleeve. Elie turned and looked down at the little girl, roughly looking about 9 with a Latino appearance. Warm chocolate eyes looked into Elie's as she herself awaited an answer. "No honey, you can have it, share with your friends, okay?", Elie said lightly, a warm smile showering happiness onto the little girl. She smiled happily and grabbed the tray with tender hands and ran excitedly to her group of young friends.

"The hell are you blushing about, Sheriff?"

"Hmm? What? Me? I uh, nothing, who's blushing? I don't blush," I said sternly, not realizing Elie had redirected his attention to me. Rolling his gray eyes in a sassy manner, he returned to his scribbling. Figuring I wouldn't get an answer out of him, I scanned my environment curiously. I seriously had to make friends, with this many people here, it was middle school all over again. High school would probably have been as packed as this.

~About an hour later~

Sipping my cup of water in boredom, I began to feel my body start to complain about how tired it was. "What time is it?", I said through a yawn.
Elie looked up and brought out a circular object connected to a chain from out of his pocket. "8:37, its almost curfew, I think they've begun bringing the mattresses out already."

I realized that the crowds in the cafeteria were probably just about 1/4 of what it had been before we had eaten. Elie stood up, shutting his book and putting his pencil in the spine of it. Quickly forcing myself to stand, I hurried to follow him as he walked out of the cafeteria.

"So, what's ne-", I felt my foot catch itself on something and I fell forward onto a soft cushioned object. "Don't fall", Elie said, obviously sounding like he was trying to hide a laugh. Looking up from where I had fallen, I saw that the older teens and young adults had already been bringing out the mattresses. "But they shouldn't be placing them on this level, damn newbies", Elie said in a low voice.

"Hey! Anderson!", Elie hollered to a brunette teenage boy about 16. The male froze in his steps as he was pushing a mattress. "Y-Yes sir?!", he answered in a loud and nervous voice. Elie walked to him, leaving me out of earshot on a mattress. All I could see was frequent nodding from the older boy and hand motions from Elie. A few seconds later, Elie walked back to me and left the boy picking up the few mattresses lying around.

"What was all that about?", I asked, removing my hat to run a hand through my hair. "He's one of the new people, we took him in about a week and a half ago, he keeps making mistakes and I just told him to correct them", Elie said in a bored voice. "He seemed pretty scared though, did you threaten to kill him or something?", in not such of a joking tone. Elie tapped the purple pin on his beanie, meaning he could order people around from his rank position.

∆Top Floor∆

"G'night Sheriff", Elie muttered with a smile, shutting the door of Room #13 as I walked away from him. Inserting the key into the lock of Room #19, I walked in lazily and shut the door behind me after entering. Undressing from the new clothes I wore, I let them fall to the ground, leaving me in my boxers. Too distracted to change into anything else, I flopped onto the bed I now claimed as mine. Turning myself onto my back, I cradled the sheriff hat on my stomach. The thoughts that had been nagging at me all day returned. The emotions that wanted to claim my control began to seep into me again. My hands tightened on the material I held.

I repeatedly told myself to be strong.

To let myself know I took my decision for what I wanted.

Blankly staring at the ceiling, blinking slowly.

The familiar warm tears started streaming down my face.
