Chapter 1 : Once Upon A Time...

It was the first day of 7th grade.

I got dressed, brushed my teeth and hair, packed my school bag and waited for my best friend Maya Hart ("hey! That's auntie Maya!" Raia exclaimed) to swing in by my bay window. The bay window was a special place for us because we were the only ones allowed to sit and talk there, and I wouldn't let my dad or mom or anyone else sit there unless we had to talk about something really important. Maya and I would sit by the bay window and spill our hearts out for hours and hours.

Maya swung in, said "hello, peaches," and we went down the stairs, ate breakfast and listened to my parents nag about things happening around us, the news, and so on. My mom was a lawyer, so it wouldn't be surprising if she talked for more than an hour. My brother, Auggie, threw in 'smart remarks' whenever he thought they were appropriate. That's when my dad jumped up and cried that he was late for work.

Maya and I went down to the subway. It was my first time there because my parents only allowed me to go on the subway when I started 7th grade.

"We're on the subway." I couldn't contain my excitement.

"I know." Maya gave me a look.

"We're on the subway."

"You've been saying that for at least twenty six times."

"We're on the subway."

"Twenty seven."

We went into the subway train. Everyone around us were either looking at their mobile phones or sleeping. I looked around, curious of the unfamiliar place.

"Maya," I nudged closer to her. "That guy over there. He's staring at us. What do we do? Why is he staring? This is freaky. Oh my gosh."

Maya chuckled. "No, Riles. He's not staring at us. He's looking at the poster behind us."I turned around and sure enough, there was a poster advertising for Maroon 5's tour. She waved at the guy and the guy waved back with a friendly smile on his face.

"Oh. Whew," I held onto the train pole. Just when I was about to turn my face back to Maya, I saw a boy looking at me. I slowly adjusted my face to his direction and saw him. He was around the same age as me. He had brown, fluffy hair and forest green eyes. I smiled shyly and blushed. He smiled back and instantly my heart was melted.

"Maya, turn your head into the ten o'clock direction. Now." Maya looked and sighed. "Whaddaya telling me to look for again?"

"Cute boy. Brown hair. Green eyes. Pretty." I said dreamily.

"Ooh. That," Maya pursed her lips. "I thought you meant gramps wearing khaki shorts. Meh. I've seen better."

"I haven't!" I whisper shouted. Maya raised her hands up in defeat. I ran my fingers through my hair and grinned at the boy again. He seemed to find it amusing because he laughed.
