Phil left his wealthy estate on the dusty streets of London Town and absentmindedly locked his door like he does every morning at precisely 07:15 without fail. Phil was a college student and had been for just over a year now, the courses he was taking were English lit, maths and biology after he dropped chemistry in his second year.Fumbling with the loose thread on his bag, Phil shuffled down the bland pavement and around the usual street lamp with tacky posters advertising a dog kennel, a unisex hairdressers and a quiz night at the at the local social club - which was already a month out of date - he had memorised the three leaflets so it was no surprise he noticed the fresh new one that was pinned up in the middle. 'Reading festival' stated the obnoxiously bold title on the paper. Phil has been going to Reading Festival every year since he was 15 so next year will be forth time running, he absolutely loved going with all his friends and they would arrange everything so far in advance due to their utter excitement.
Phil took a mental note of the dates and line up to tell his friends before continuing on his journey. He crossed the sparse road and checked he was on time by spying the usual old businessman that would leave his house at the exact time Phil made it onto the pavement - that's if he was on time anyway. His headphones changed songs as he changed streets and came across the grotesque opening into a path that acted as a short cut in Phil's daily commute to school; there where two run down shops on either side, one abandoned and the other being used as an illegal house, the street lamp flickered slightly and hummed like a mosquito as a crisp packet blew across the cobbled paving before him.
Once out of the short cut Phil emerged straight onto the station platform that was no longer used by trains, he climbed the many steps up to the bridge and plodded along the unstable structure that got him to his destination. The wait was only a minute or two because of Phil's perfect timing and as he clambered on the train his papers fell out of his useless folder which sat in Phil's left hand.
"Shoot" Phil mumbled under his breath as a spring breeze picked up slightly blowing his paper almost onto the tracks. A satisfying thump of a night black Doc Martin shoe punched the platform and caught my paper in the process; my curious eyes scanned up the figure from his second hand shoes to his tight, black, ripped jeans followed by an eclipse shirt that his body filled nicely. Finally, I reached his face: it was beautifully symmetrical with the exception of a dark, chestnut brown fringe that swooped over the opposite side than mine, all this was topped off with a matching maroon eyes colour with gold and green streaks inked within it.
The beautiful boy gave me a nervous smile which turned into a rather attractive smirk as he leant down and picked up my paper examining it for a moment, every second that passed reminded me I had a train to catch. Finally, he handed it to me. I thanked him graciously and he just nodded in reply, I wanted to know more about this mesmerising boy but my train was eager to leave and I was urgent to get to school today for an exam I needed to take.
I hopped on to the train just before the doors closed and watched the boy as the train began to move again, he was walking away from me with a subtle skip in his step when I felt a depressing pang in my chest. What if I never see that boy again? He's so insignificant in my life so why am I so worried about loosing him? Thoughts like these haunted my journey and before I knew it the train had pulled up once again to the station two minutes from my college.
I hurried inside and greeted my friends, Louise, Chris, PJ, Connor, Tyler and Troye.
"Shit mate I'm freaking out for this exam" PJ announced before even saying 'hello'.
"I know same I've spent all month revising for it but I'm still not ready"
"Don't worry boys you'll do fine" Louise reassured.
"That's easy for you to say when you don't have to do it" Connor chimed in nervously.
"What's Chris doing" I asked just noticing the boy behind the desk PJ was on scribbling down notes onto a pad.
"Revising" Troye laughed at his lack of organisation whilst Tyler mumbled some sarcastic comment under his breath.
"Alright class settle down now please" our tutor Mr Cumberbatch ordered and we did as we were told, me taking a seat next to Louise.
After taking the register Mr Cumberbatch showed us the diagram of the hall where we with be taking our exam and where everyone will be sitting. There where over 200 pupils in our year and the seats were in alphabetical order of our surnames so it was all confusing.
"Silence from now on please" the head teacher directed from the front of the canteen where we lined up before entering the hall, the room fell silent apart from the clattering of stationary and equipment every so often before we made our way into the hall and to our seats. The examiner went over the instructions and rules then let us begin, the paper was on English which Phil thought he was quite good at however he was still terrified.
Once the test was over the group went to the canteen to eat, most of us still shaking from the exam, we began discussing answers and you could see someone face fall when they didn't get the same as everyone els. The rest of the day dragged on with lessons as normal before the bell finally rang signalling the end of the day.
Phil met his train on the usual platform and took the usual great western service back to my stop; he then took my usual climb up and down the steps on the bridge connecting the two platforms he wanted to travel between and followed the usual, ugly short cut path back to the usual road in which Phil crossed, however, this time something was unusual. he heard it before he saw it, the beautiful melody of the unmistakable lyrics of Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran accompanied with the faultless tune played on a grand piano swirled through my ears and calmed my mind.
The voice, who ever it belonged to, was truly beautiful and a pleasure to listen to, he hit every high note with a perfect pitch and had a sensual gravely voice for the lower ones. There was already a small crowd surrounding the grand instrument where the performer sat with a hat on the ground quickly filling with various coins and notes.
Phil stared up at the street performer in an attempt to see the talented face that possessed to power to sing so meaningfully and was confronted with the unmistakable brown eyes of the boy from this morning. His hair swung softly over one eyes with no hands free to remove it and his fingers danced along the keys on the piano, his eyes seemed oblivious to the attention he had summoned as they stared intently at the job in hand, you could tell that even know he got practically no pay he really loved his job by the joyful sparkle in his eyes that refused to dull.
Phil listened longer, hypnotised by the beauty of it all, and before long the song was over, the crowd clapped and cheered but he just stood, stunned into a statue. The street performer eventually looked up from his beloved piano and his eyes locked with Phil's, his cheeky smirk from earlier returned and his cheeks blushes red, I was hoping I'd see him again.
