Shizuka Morii came from a branch family of an old yet strong onmyouji family, The Himikryu. When the incident in Himikryu Mansion happened, her great grandmother was a sole survivor. She ran away before the ritual was completed and went back to her village in Chiba, alone. Rumors said that her great grandmother was cursed, so the villagers cast her out and forbid her to come back. They told her to go to Sado Island, and sacrificed her existence to the Northern Demons to cleanse her family sin, and then she disappeared.
The story said nothing about the Morii house until two brothers came back from Sado Island with a pile of gold, silver, and beautiful gemstones. With their treasures, those brothers bought as much land they can afforded in Chiba, and so the evil Mansion itself. They worked so hard and succeed, leaving a legacy as the wealthiest house in Chiba.
Shizuka's father, the 3rd generation of Morii, was an easy going historian. He was an expert in making troubles. His artistic soul brought him to meet Shizuka's mother, a foreign material scientist with some unusual taste of art. Both of them loved to collect weapons, and spent a lot of time, energy, and resource on their collections. They met in an auction, as a rival. Later on, they became closer and closer, and in the end, became a couple, although it didn't last long enough since Shizuka's mother had to give up her live for giving birth to Shizu's younger brother.
She has a four years younger brother and a twin cousins. When her uncle and aunt died in a car accident, their spirits asked her to take care of their sons and she promised her best. Since then, her cousins live together with her, her brother, and her father at a humble house in the dense city of Tokyo.
Shizuka herself had no idea about her family dark history. She was born as the only female in the 4th generation of Morii house, and the only one, beside her late aunt, who could see the other sides, including spirits and tsukumogami. The first time she met the tsukumogami was when she sneaked into her warehouse. There she found a white ghost which apparently was the tsukumogami from an ancient sword which had a big role in the Himikryu's bloodline, a really difficult thing to understand for a six years old little girl. The ghost told her that her power came from her grandmother's ability that only inherited by the females in Himikryu family, and she must kept silence about it since she was the last female Himikryu. It said that calamity would came if there was no more females inherited Himikryu's blood around.
After that, the ghost always stayed around her even though nobody could see it except her. It taught her about onmyoudo and lots of talisman, about how to understand the constellation, and how to read signs around her. It even taught her some prayers and sutra, wrapped in some kind of simple yet interesting songs and stories. In short, the ghost was her reason to take her current major in college.
Under the ghost's guidance, Shizuka became stronger and stronger. One day, when she had a visit into a museum, she found Izuminokami Kanesada, sat inside a glass box, looked so bored and sad. She approached him, knocked at the glass and got yelled by the museum officer. But the bored Kanesada was so surprised and pleased, for so many years no one able to saw him and suddenly this young lady knocked at his glass box and asked him to get out from the box.
Her power grew more and more until one day, when she went to Suruga no Otaki (Suruga Great Falls) with her family, she drifted away by the current and fell into the waterfall. Nobody could find her body since she didn't really fell into the waterfall. She was transferred into the Japanese warring state as a saniwa, thanks to that mysterious ghostly figure.
