Chapter 5
Hazel POV
Knock Knock Knock...
"What's going on?" I groan, turning over in bed. I glance at the clock: 4 o'clock a.m. Even Marina won't be awake right now to prepare for school.
"Did you invite Joseph over?" I moan.
"No, of course not," Marina mumbles, then suddenly sits up. "Joseph's here?"
Knock Knock Knock...
"It's a ghost!" I scream.
I roll under the bed. It's kinda squeezy, and is that-? I see a dead cockroach beside me. I gulp.
There's been a corpse living under my bed?!
"I'M NOT GOING TO STAY WITH A DEAD BODY!!!!" I scream and dart around the room, trying to find a place to hide. There's nowhere, no good hiding space before the ghost finds us!
I'm going to ask the General Office to give us a hiding space tomorrow.
"Marina, do you remember how I told you I didn't care when Old McGregor died? Actually I do, because I was always so rude to her and tried to sneak an extra Tootsie roll when she wasn't looking, and now I think she's after me..." I confessed, trying to hide under my desk.
There's no response.
"Marina? Weren't you scared of Anabelle? Aren't you more scared than me?"
Silence
"Marina??" I feel myself shiver. Did she get eaten up by the ghosts?
Wait, can ghosts eat?
"MARINA??? WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU??" I scream.
"I think," I tremble, "I have to go find you."
I look around the dorm room. "Goodbye world, it's a short life but I have no choice-"
"Chill girl," I jump out of my skin when something warm touches me. I turn back, seeing an unfamiliar blonde girl smiling at me.
"Are you McGregor's daughter? You look real." I admit.
The girl rolls her eyes. "That's because I am real." She stretches out her hand. "Sarah Mathew, from across your dorm room. I have no idea who McGregor is."
Stunned, I silently shake her hand. A beautiful brunette girl smiles at me. "I'm Emily Brown, Sarah's roommate."
"I'm Hazel." I say shakily. Marina says apologetically. "I'm sorry, she thought you guys were ghosts."
"It's alright, I'm pretty scared of ghosts too." Emily assures me. I relax.
"I thought you guys were going to make fun of me," I admit. I'm kind of used to people doing that. Way to introduce myself.
Except...
I narrow my eyes at them. "What the hell are you doing here at 4 a.m.?"
Sarah smiles brightly. "We wanted to surprise you guys!"
"Couldn't you do it at a more earthly hour?" I groan.
"We have cheer practice at 6, so we decided to move forward our schedule." Emily explains chirpily. I groan. Of all people, our roommates have to be cheerleaders?
Except they seem pretty nice. For cheerleaders.
I cross my arms. "Why do you need two hours to introduce yourselves then?"
