Hazel POV
Alex and I walk back down to the canteen. He's not saying anything, which makes me feel awkward. He doesn't dislike me or find me annoying now, does he?
I shake myself. Why do you care? If anything, he's the annoying one. I move away from him as Marina spots us.
"Where were you guys? You missed the whole tour!" She exclaims, grabbing my wrist. "You didn't hurt her, did you?" She looks protectively over me and glares at Alex although she's half a foot shorter and he's clearly stronger.
I roll my eyes. "No, actually we-"
"I tried to be a true guide and brought her to the clubs but she didn't like it and dragged me away. She was such an annoying whiner and said that I was a bastard and she was stronger, so we had a mini duel." He winks. "Let's say it got a LITTLE violent and we quarrelled and-"
"Stop." Marina holds up her hand, looking annoyed and shocked at the same time.
"When will you guys stop fighting." John comes up, a twinkle in his eyes. Sarah, Sam and Emily is with him. Turns out they became friends.
I look at Alex, surprised. Why does he want to pretend we hate each other and lie? Alex mouths at me Just go along with it.
"Like never?" I shoot Alex a look. "He calls me asshole, b**ch, basically everything that he is, then provokes and fights me. And they say guys are gentlemen."
"Well, they are." Alex wriggles his eyebrows. "I'm King of them."
"Oh my gosh!" I slap my hand against my forehead while John rolls his eyes. "I'm sorry for his behaviour," John says apologetically.
"I'm not." Alex smirks and gives me the finger as John drags him away. "See you at the campfire!" John shouts over his shoulder.
"He just asked you out!" Marina says excitedly.
"What? No." I shake my head. "He was just being nice."
"Oh, you don't know love when you see it." Marina says somewhat dreamily while I gag.
Seriously, now she thinks she's the new Aunt Agony. Why is everyone so obsessed with love.Scene 2
"And who are we? Team Wildcats!" (Or however hsm says it) there's loud applause and cheers as I groan and hide my face beneath my hoodie. Now there's cheer contests and mini games before a barbeque, and its so BORING and LAME. Marina and Joseph are practically dancing around though. In fact, Joseph is the one leading our group since he's the most cheerful and enthusiastic, while Marina is shyly clapping beside him. I want to go back to my room.
I look around, searching for John. He promised he'll come around, but he's nowhere to be seen. For now, I watch as people tell ghost stories of our college, while people actually scream or shiver.
Although I don't fancy John, I do consider him a friend despite his arsehole of a friend. And I'm bored (did I mention that already?) so I quietly leave and try to find him.
I find him laughing and talking to Sarah some distance away, and I feel my jaw clench, although I don't know why. But didn't he say he'll come looking for me? What's he doing flirting with someone else?
"Hey." I rudely interrupt their conversation. John looks up. "Oh, hey Hazel! Have you met Sarah? She's in the same building as you."
"Yeah, she's my neighbour." I say dryly as Sarah giggles. John laughs and the way he looks at her make my mouth dry. You rejected him, right? I remind myself. Yet I feel like I'm losing a friend to a prettier and sweeter girl.
