CHAPTER TWO

The rest of my classes were pretty uneventful. The only class I have with Dakota is Math so I was able to avoid him and the rest of the popular group throughout the day. I ate lunch in the library like I do every day to avoid being bullied and finally made it to my favorite class: Art.

Most of the time Mrs. Jason will let us do whatever in art class. Today was no different.

I looked at the clock on the wall and saw that the bell was going to be ringing soon and I'd have to go home. I internally sighed, not wanting to leave.

I looked back at my painting and chewed on my lip, unsure of what it was. As usual, my canvas was covered in blacks and greys and dark blues and purples. It was an abstract painting, dark like normal. I sighed and picked it up, putting it away in my painting cupboard. Mrs. Jason had individual cupboards for advanced art students to store their art so she could grade it and we could keep it here.

I washed my brushes off, feeling sad at the state they were in. They were old and beat up, from years of use. My parents refused to get me new brushes so I was stuck using these old ones.

Once I was done putting my things away, I washed my hands as best I could and began putting things in my backpack. The bell rang as I put my last notebook away and everyone ran from the room, excited to be going home or to their friend's house or...whatever it is normal teens do.

"Olivia?"

I looked up as I put my backpack onto my back. Mrs. Jason was standing in front of me, a gentle smile on her face. Her long brown hair fell in soft waves around her face and her eyes saddened when she looked at my face.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

I just nodded in response. She knows I don't talk, as does everyone here. She paused for a moment before taking a step towards me. Instinctively, I took a step away, not wanting her too close to me.

She stopped and watched me, her shoulders falling a bit.

"Tomorrow will you show me your artwork? I just need to see it so I can put participation grades in the book."

I nodded again and she sent a brave smile my way.

"Thank you, Olivia. Try and have a good rest of your day okay?"

I nodded once more before turning on my heels and leaving the room. I ran towards the buses, knowing that if I didn't make it in time I'd have to walk home. And that meant being later than usual and less time to have to myself.

Once I made it outside I slowed down, knowing that running would cause Amber or any of the other jocks to notice me, which would cause me to miss the bus.

It was no use though because apparently, they were on the look-out for me today.

"There she is!" Someone yelled.

I could feel myself begin to panic, my bus only a couple of feet away from me. Come on Olivia...you're almost there.

I took a couple of steps forward, running into something solid. I looked up and found myself staring at a football jersey.

Shit.

Before I could go around the person, he grabbed my arms and turned me around. Amber was walking towards us, a few of the football players and cheerleaders with her. Dakota was nowhere to be found in their little posse.

Amber looked down at me in disgust and I looked down at my shoes. Can I please just die here? Please.

"Hey! What the hell are you even still doing here?" She asked.
