Chapter 7: Stefan.
She saunters to the cabinets and looks at the cartridges of various medicines, mouthing the different doses, her eyes scrolling through each container carefully. I trudge to the closest stool and drag it closer to the middle of the room, heavily sitting on it with a grumble. My eyes shut as I silently groan.
“I'm looking for a good antiseptic so that there is no infection,” Lassie says. I look at her, just when she turns to me. “Just bear with it a little more, Stefan,” she whispers. I nod, trying for nonchalance.
My nose hurt like hell. That loser sure could pack quite a punch. I do not need a petty woman like her to freak out like that though. After all, worse has happened to others. I do not need her to worry about a guy like me.
She finally finds a medical kit, cluttered with bandages, gauge, ointment, and more. As she digs through the bag, I stare at her.
She is pretty good looking. Gorgeous, even. She seems to know what she is doing so she is probably smart. She is a woman. The quintessence of one, and her eyes. Damn, her eyes are the pretties things I have ever seen. Their sparkling, brilliant blue always reminded me of home. As blue as the ocean. Absolutely gorgeous... I blink and shake my head. What the hell am I thinking? I groan in frustration. Lassie mistakes my moan for pain and turns to me abruptly, holding a wad of white cotton balls and antiseptic. She reaches for a stool and drags it beside me, putting the material on it. She looks at me, frowning while scrutinizing my face. I scowl but then grimace at the pain it gives me. She tries to refrain from smiling and I frown, questionable. She pours the antiseptic on the cotton and lifts it to my face, still trying to hold back a smile.
“What?” I snap, glaring at her but wincing again.
“Nothing. Stop scowling at me,” she chastises. She carefully wipes the blood off of my face as I hiss through clenched teeth, the antiseptic stinging. “I'm sorry,” she says, making a face, turning back to the supplies, throwing away the blood covered cotton balls.
As I watch her diligently working, my eyes start to soften. I really, truly do not deserve her kindness, especially after I am purposely being extremely rude to her. She finally finds the ointment and correct bandage gauge, swiftly applying it to my face.
“All done!” she says happily, giving me a bright smile, lighting up her adorable face. I blink. I really have to stop thinking about her in that strange way.
“Ready to go then?” I ask gruffly. She nods.
“Yep. Food first, right?”
“Yeah. You're probably hungry so I'll take you to the Mess Hall first,” I remark.
Lassie trots to the raft and gets on without too much effort. I frown. I feel the need to pick her up and feel her body warmth against mine. She glances at me.
“Come on, Stefan,” she urges. I sigh again for what seems like the umpteenth time. I get up and head outside, the pain gradually dissipating.
