I was breathing heavily as I stopped behind a tree to catch my breath. The footfalls grew closer and I knew I should keep moving, but my feet were stuck, I was stuck. I couldn't move an inch no mater how hard I tried.

Like I was frozen.

My eyes darted about wildly, the only things I could move.

The footfalls slowed as he stalked towards me. It was like this every night. I'm chased somewhere, always pursued. He always catches me, but I then wake up, never to see who haunts my dreams.

A twig snapped near me. "Well...." His voice caressed me like a cheese grater, me the cheese. "What do we have here? Hmmm..." Out of the corner of my eye I glimpsed a gloved hand. He caressed my shoulder, the leather glove smooth against my skin, as I inwardly cringed.

My jaw began to tingle as the momentary paralysis that held it immobile began to vanish enabling movement. My tongue previously cemented to the roof of my mouth now free. "Get your filthy paws off my silky drawers."

Not the best thing to say under the circumstances but it's all my quick fire brain could come up with. Always quick to respond, wit being one of my flaws. Movie quote or not it had the effect to cause the man to pause, obviously not expecting me to talk back. Also my pajamas were no where near being silky but a girl could dream.

A deep rumble like that of a dog growling emitted from deep in his chest. "That is no way to speak to me!" His hand reared back only to slap my cheek with jarring force as claws raked across my skin.

Wait! Did he just growl? Were those claws? He just freaking slapped me! Oh heck to the no!

"I have every right to speak to you however I please." I slurred out, as my cheek began to throb and blood trailed down to my chin. "Do tell, why do you believe that?" His tone sharp and warning.

"Because you don't own me, I don't know you, and nor do I care what you think of me! You are a wuss that hides within the shadows stalking me on a nightly basis thinking it okay to control me, when you yourself are to afraid to show who you are."

"Is that what you think?" He asked as a deep malicious laugh escaped his mouth. A cool breeze that was plagued with terror rolled past me as he came to a stop in front of my face. A veil of black mist swirled and writhed, shrouded his face from view. "You my love have much to learn." "I am not your anything." I spat back through gritted teeth.

He gave off another laugh of what sounded like pure delight. As he began to pull of one of his leather gloves, finger by finger. Once completely off his hand could be seen, not obstructed by the swirling mist. His skin was an ivory white and seemed thin as paper, veins noticeable throughout. His fingers long and lanky ending with black pointed nails. He then proceeded to place his finger tips on my temple.

As his icy cold skin made contact with mine I felt these icy tendrils almost like maggots tiring to worm their way inside my mind, seeking something and not hesitating to burrow in and rip and tear my minds barriers to shreds. Terror seized my body as my mind became clouded by fear and an intense pain worsening by the second. A scream tore from my throat as my mental blockades were being torn down piece by piece the fear of what was happening only heightening my bodies response.

As soon as it started it was over.

I awoke with a start, in my bedroom. My clothes and body soaked in a cold sweat. My cheek throbbed in tempo with my heart beat, matching the piercing pulse of pain radiating throughout my head.

As I looked to the alarm clock I wasn't shocked to find that the time was only 3:57 A.M. Another sleepless night to add to the talley marks.

I swung my legs over the edge of the bed careful not to wake Navala, my big great pyrenees. Undisturbed she continued to snore loudly.
