Are you the Doctor?

A/N: This story isn't mainly my idea. It's from roleplays with hythros . Thank you for playing with me. Hythros, It's not exactly like it was... I changed few parts, I hope you don't mind😉

Professor River Song was walking in the evening down the street, thinking about her day. She was invited here by University for two weeks to do few Archilogy lectures. This was her second day here, everything was great, nobody was distracting her, she only hasn't seen her husband Doctor for a while, but it is alright, sometimes he is back in few weeks, sometimes it takes more than year...

Street was empty, only she and one man walking there, no other people, no cars. Suddenly that man felt on ground, River noticed it and run to him.

"Are you alright?"
Man starts shaking.
"No, you are not OK. What's wrong?"
"I- I can't breath" he pants.
"I need to look at your chest, alright?"
Man nods and she puts down his shirt. Stripe of blood was going out of his chest. "I see why" she takes some bandages from her pocket and put it on his injury.
"It will hurt a bit, now" he flinches but let her to do it. River tapes it while she was talking to him:
"Anyway, What's your name?"
"Well... I would rather not say, darling" she finished taping.
"Fine, you'll be alright but you have to go to hospital"
"No, I won't go to hospital, sweetheart"
"You have to and stop calling me sweetheart, only one man can call me like that- " River bend to his chest to listen his heart. Her eyes widen, when she hear that... He has got two hearts.
"But- I- I'm sorry I didn't know It's you, you regenerated!"
"Yeah, I did. You are happy to see me?"
"Of course I am. I was waiting for you to come back" River help him stand up.
"Alright... I wasn't expecting it, but OK. You know I can't go to hospital, so have you got some house or flat here, where I can go, I won't stay long, just I don't like it much, here on street..."
"I don't live here. I came here to give some lectures on University..."
"You are lecturing?"
"Yeah, I am Professor..."
"Of what?"
"Rather not say, you will laugh..."
"Fine... Where do you live here?"
"I live in hotel, not far from here"
"Can we go there?"
"Yeah, sure" River supporting him, walks down the street towards hotel.

"Why can't we go to the TARDIS? Where is she anyway?"
"My TARDIS? I lost a while ago..."
"You should get new one, cause everytime I meet you in future, you has got your TARDIS..."
"I get a new one, great! You meet me in future?"
"I don't know if It's future or past for you, but I think future..."
"Oh... Alright. And we are friends?"
"More than just a friends"
"I think this is misunderstanding..."
"Really?"
"I don't know... It was hard day..."
They arrive to hotel, take lift up and go to River's room.

"Make yourself comfortable"
He sit on couch, while River go for some drink.

She brings him glass of water and he drink it bit fast.
"Have you got shower?"
"Yeah, of course. That way" River show him bathroom and go to drink something too, than search for her scanner and diary.

After few minutes he walks out of bathroom, washed, shaved, brushed teeth, without shirt with bandages in hands. Fresh blood is dripping from him on floor.
"Professor, can you please help me?"
River look at him, put diary on table and go to get some new bandages and tape.

"Of course Sweetie, sit or lie somewhere and call me just River" He plops in armchair, River come to him and put new bandages on. He notices TARDIS diary on table, than watch River working on his chest.
"What if I'm not him?"
River is concentrated on taping his injury, so don't think about what he is saying much. "You are not who?"
"Him. You will leave me on street, rot somewhere. I would have to rely on that apes again, cause you can't let me stay here, because if he will find out, that I'm here..." he looked at River and continue: "Why is he always so lucky, when we were children, why they made ME insane, that's what they do, now he is so much more lucky too.Why?" River finish it and sit on couch.
"What are you talking about?"
"River, that's what he calls you... What if I am not HIM?"
"Why are you talking about you in 3rd person?..."
"River, say my name..."
"Why? Just senseless?"
"Please, just do it for me..."
"The Doctor..."
He started to laugh a bit...
"What's wrong? Should I say your true name?" River say and he stop laughing.
"You know true name? He told you his true name?"
"Yeah, of course"
"Say it! Say his true name!"
"You act weird... I know, regeneration do something, but that big change? I don't think you are the Doctor and I don't want to say it to wrong person. Why are you talking about yourself in 3rd person? Are you even talking about yourself?" River stand up as she was talking, man with short blond hair stand up now too.

"River, come here..." he says with sweet voice and stretch arms to her.
"I didn't want to make you think that... Im talking in third person about my future and past incarnations, because I'm not them anymore..." River come to him and he hug her, kiss her on forehead...
They just stand there for a few more minutes without word, until he said: "River... Will you let me hug you, if I won't be the Doctor?"
"What are you talking about? You are the Doctor, aren't you?"
"Oh... Why is he always so lucky? I want woman like you too..."
"But you got me..."
"That's the problem... I'm so sorry, but I am not him... I am not the Doctor..."
"What?!" she pulled away from him: "Who are you than? I though he is the last Time Lord...."
"No..."
River walk to window and watch his reflection. He made evil laugh.
"Oh, my precious River... That's how you like to be called, don't you?... How could you every think that I am him, that I am the Doctor. I am not him, I never was, I am the Master!"

River is looking outside, tears in eyes, how could I be so stupid... How could I even thinks It's Him...
"You love him so much and he has never told you. You have got that sad live. You saved him many times, you died for him and he don't care about you.... After few years he will forget that you ever existed, that you ever said his name... You are NOTHING!"
Tears start falling down River's face.
"Yeah, true you are part Time Lord, I smell it when I first met you, but what else are you? Why would he loves you?"
River dries her tears with say: "you made me feel like... this. Tell me one thing that stop me from killing you right here, right now... Yeah, Doctor, but he is not here!"
"Nothing, just kill me"
River put hand on her blaster.
"But you won't kill me, will you?" He falled on ground. River turn around.
"This won't help you," He started shaking.
"Come on, this is stupid." His bandages start getting red of blood.
"Just shut up!" River run to get bandages, tapes and some more things.

She knee to him.
"Do you know what's wrong with you?"
"That force field" he pantes.
"What force field?"
"not... Here... On Gallifrey... I'm not free from time lock... It's trying to pull me in..."
"Can't you just go back there?"
"They will execute me. Do you want that?"
"Well... No, I'll rather kill you by myself How can I help you?"
"I need to become fix point here, I need some object..."
"Like TARDIS?"
"Like TARDIS."
"I don't have a TARDIS, you don't have a TARDIS... Something else..."
"That book!"
"What book?! My diary?!" hand it to him. He find empty page.
"Here, write about me"
"Alright," she takes pen and starts writting about how meet him.
"No, not like that... You have to write my future!" River than start as fast as she can writting some random future, how she save him. She finished page and look at him.
"Got it...." He was in unconscious.
"... It must happend now, OK... Lets look, what am I supposed to do... What?! Why did I write something stupid like that?!" River keep calm, inhale, exhale and than she bend over Master and kissed him.

She pulls away and looks what will happen. He slowly open his eyes and River smile at him. He kissed her passionetly. River wide her eyes: "wow" she though: he is really good kisser...
She looks in book and really, It's written there. River was under big pressure, when she was writting it so, It's...weird.
"You saved me..." he says. She was still in shock about what has he done. He stands up and says: "Thank you for saving me and sorry for your floor" where was a blood.

"It was nice to meet you, River." he walk to door. She followed him.
"Where are you going?"
"I can't stay here much longer... What if he comes here and find me here with you. You don't want it, do you?"
"No, I just, you can't go out there, you are hurt and that people would take you to hospital and there they will take out your second heart and you will die, then what was point if saving you..."
"Did I touched your little hearts?"
"No, yes, I don't know... I'm just-" he put finger on her lips to be quiet and says: "I can take care of myself" and than he walk out of door.

He suddenly stops, turns around and come back to her open doors.
"Did you forget something?"
He comes close to her and look down in her eyes: "Why is he always so lucky..." she looked up.
He carefully, slowly places his fingers on her cheeks, delicately brushing her chin with his thumb, before bending down and very softly pressing his lips against hers...
River was surprised, amazed, happy, upset and many more things. she has no idea what to think about this. He press lips on her ear and whisper his name, his true name, than he dissappear down the steps.
