Summer Begins- Chapter 1

Calpurnia's POV

It's been a year since the summer of Tom's trial. The only people who still talk about the trial are of course Tom's dear wife Helen and the Finch's. Well only Scout and Mr. Atticus, Jem won't talk about it says it ain't sit right with him what happened to Tom. Scout is starting to become more like a lady everyday. After what Ewell tried to do that night Mrs. Alexandra decided that Scout was being raised pretty darn good and choose to move back to Finch's landing.

Scout' s POV

"SCOUT "

Screamed someone I couldn't quite catch what the person had said after screaming my name, but all of the sudden I was being shaken really roughly. I opened my eyes and saw Jem standing there looking at me with excitement.

"What? " I asked angrily.

"Dill's comin' today member?" said Jem not realizing how angry I was,

"I thought he wasn't comin' till 1?" I replied confused and annoyed.

"Scout it's quarter to 1 already, you've been sleepin' a lot lately sometin' the mat'er??"

"No, nothin' the mat'er I just like sleep not everyone an early bird like you "I snapped everything I do Jem always thinks I'm sick or sometin.

"You gonna get out or do ya wanna help me dress?" I asked bugged that he was still in my room.

"Yeah just meet me down stairs when your ready to leave we're gonna have to hurry if we wanna make it on time ".

I choose my favourite blue dress to wear, it's not to girly looking and I can run and play games in it it's as good as my overralls. Jem made me run the entire way to the train station he said since my legs are so short the only way I can keep up is by running along beside him. When we had finally got there no one was in sight, no train either. Jem and I we're waiting for 5, 10, 15, minutes then a train finally showed up. We waited anxiously scanning every passenger until finally the last person off was of course the one and only Dill.

He smiled at Jem, looked at me confused and walked right past me. He didn't smile nothing. Dill and Jem talked for hours it seemed like, Jem was bragging about getting on to the football team, when Atticus intrupted the boys.

"Son, stop bragging about being on the football team. I raised a gentleman not a bragger. You hear? " said Atticus sternly.

"Yes, sir." was all Jem said about it.

When dinner was ready I had to go fetch the boys. I walked up stairs to Jem's room but before I walked in I heard Jem telling Dill how much a pain I was now. Jem had never said anything like this before, well never behind my back. I decided to pretend I hadn't heard, anyways Dill would tell me later he always told me stuff like this. So knocked on the door before I opened it.

"Dinner time, Cal says to wash up first."

Later that night I heard Jem and Dill sneak out and decided to follow them. I was keeping a safe distance behind them, and then stopped all the sudden at the school gates, I got closer to hear what they we're saying when I heard Jem say "underneath that tree yonder is where I killed Bob Ewell ". Why would he say that? He knew that Bob Ewell fell on his own knife. "The night it happened I over heard Atticus and Mr.Heck Tate arguring about wether I killed him or not....I did Dill ..I did. I pushed him on to the knife but before he fell he punched me one last time and knocked me out. I killed him on purpose Dill, he threatened Atticus, Dill, I had to do it. Atticus already said he wouldn't kill him so I did." What? Why would he say those things? Should I tell Atticus? How's Dill going to react will he tell me?

"Dill you can't tell anyone, not even Scout,okay? "

"I swear I won't Jem, not even Scout." I hate Dill and Jem. Why would Jem lie?
