Baking. Of course.
Except it was called "Home Ec", whatever that meant. It was required for all girls in the school which really bugged Mal. Seriously? Boys should be cooking too.
She tried to cook once in her own home, it was just cutting up a rotten tomato but even then she managed to cut herself.
Which sucked because she's a villain, she should be good with knives.
Luckily, Evie was in the same class as her so she just left the baking to her and then Mal would decorate the pastries or cake, turns out it's a lot like painting.
It was Evie's idea to split up the work after Mal started boiling the batter on accident. It was teamwork and they ended up with good projects to take to Carlos and Jay to eat after class. It was a win for everyone.
Until the teacher saw Mal sketching at a table while everyone else was baking.
Swan Queen Odette didn't like the lost kids from the second she heard about them, apparently she had a bad run in with a sorcerer and hasn't gotten over it. Whatever she got turned into a swan and almost lost her true love, big deal it happens to everyone.
But now she's making Mal participate in making the peanut butter cookies.
Mal wanted to stab her with the spoon she was measuring the sugar with. At least she had steady hands from painting all the time so she wasn't spilling on the annoyingly clean white floor.
Evie had put her in charge of measuring so she was nowhere near a heat source which was a very good plan.
She made a mental note to come back in the night and spray paint the floor red with maybe a swan or something.
Something poetic.
Mal had to look at the instructions again and saw peanut butter which confused her greatly. She had never heard of that, probably some annoying auradon speciality.
She handed Evie the measuring spoon with the sugar and went to the students cabinet. Mal ran into Lonnie at the opening and asked her about the peanut butter.
"You've never heard of peanut butter Mal? It's the best!
My mom used to make me sandwiches with it on and some jam for school,They were my favorite as a kid and probably still are.
My Dad and I eat them together all the time, it's a great thing to have that special treat with your parents you know?"
Mal rocked on her feet and just stared at Lonnie. She always talked about her parents and apparently they got along well, they never shoved evil plans onto their child. Probably didn't trust her enough.
Lonnie was looking at Mal strangely, like waiting for an answer. So Mal just moved in the pantry, grabbed the jar, and just nodded to Lonnie as she walked back to Evie.
Evie was busy with the oven but looked over as she asked "What took so long?"
Mal just shrugged and gave her the jar but then Queen Odette jumped in and tutted " Nuh uh Mal Evie's been busy over here while you've been dodging work and chatting, measure the peanut butter yourself. 1 cup please." She smiled annoyingly as she glided away humming.
Mal hated her so much.
Evie smiled pityingly at Mal. She seemed to get picked on the most by the teachers. All of their parents did bad things but you don't get called Mistress of Evil for nothing. She grabbed a measuring cup and handed it to Mal with a shrug.
Mal grabbed it with her hand that wasn't holding the spoon to pick up the peanut butter. She screwed open the jar and reached in the to fill up her spoon.
