"I really hope that you weren't expecting a five-course meal," Matthew said as we arrived at his house.

"No, not at all... But what are we having?" I asked as the car came to a stop in the driveway.

I looked up at the house and smiled, it was a one-storey home with lots of little decorations out the front. Things such as gnomes, dream catchers, and butterflies dangling from the porch made me love the place already; it had a certain warmth to it that could only be described as homely.

"We're having burritos, I hope that's okay with you Eve.." he spoke unsurely as he turned to me.

"No that's perfectly fine, I love burritos," I assured him with a laugh as we all got out of the car.

"Burrito night is my favourite night... Do you want to know why?" Sydney asked whilst she took a hold of my hand as we walked to the front door.

"Of course! I'd love to know why," I replied to her with a smile on my face.

"Because when I get all messy, daddy gets mad and has to clean up after me," she said with a giggle.

I laughed and squeezed her hand as we entered the house; this girl I tell you. Once I put my foot through the doorframe I instantly felt at home. The walls were a light beige colour and there were family pictures all along the hall. Sydney let go of my hand and ran down the hall, entering a room on the left... I guess that must be her room. I looked to my right as one of the pictures on the wall caught my eye. It was a simple picture, just a boy and a woman with their arms around each other with huge smiles on their faces. They look practically identical though, with their dark, curly hair, green eyes and dimples they could've been twins; except for the fact that the woman was obviously older.

"That's Anne and Harry,"

I heard a voice say from behind me. I turned to face Matthew after I'd recovered from the shock of hearing his voice in contrast to the complete silence of the house.

"She's beautiful," I admitted to him as I turned back to admire the picture.

"She truly was," I heard Matthew say as he walked away from me and into another room off of the hallway.

I turned away from the picture and followed Matthew into the other room of the house; which turned out to be the kitchen. I took a seat politely at the counter as he began to get some bowls and food out for dinner.

"Come play with me Eve," A voice rung out from behind me.

I turned around in my seat and smiled at Sydney as she stood in the doorway.

"What's the magic word Syd?" Matthew's voice came out in a stern way, obviously referring to the fact that she hadn't used any of her manners.

"Oh right, sorry dad... Eve, can you please come and play with me?" Sydney asked with a sheepish grin on her face.

"I'd love to Sydney," I told her as I hopped off of my seat and followed Sydney to her room down the hall.

As we entered her room I decided to take a look around as Sydney went to go and set up her dolls. Her room was painted a pastel pink colour with a princess theme, however, there was also a printed picture of Tinker Bell on her wall. I bent down to have a look at the books that she had on her bookshelf, they all consisted of fairy tale books, the Harry Potter series and some Goosebumps books, however, a few other books caught my eye; she has the Mazerunner series... this girl really is something special.

"How old are you Sydney?" I asked curiously, I never actually did get her age.

"I'm nine," she said with a smile as she patted the spot next to her, indicating that she wanted me to sit down now.

I walked over to her and sat down, making sure I left enough room for us to play with the dolls. I smiled when she handed me the boy doll and she took the girl doll.

"So your doll is called Ken, and mine's called Barbie," she told me with a small smile on her face.

"I think I've got this," I reassured her as I inwardly laughed to myself at the generic names of the dolls.

I watched as Sydney moved Barbie over to Ken and then proceeded to flip her hair.

"Hey Ken"

"Hi there Barbie"

Sydney giggled at my use of a deeper voice before quickly recovering and moving on with our 'story'.

"Do you know when Harry's coming home?"

"Isn't that your older brother?"

"Yeah, I miss him... I have no one to play with when he's gone"

I frowned to myself, I would've hated to have been an only child. I use to wish that I was one... but I realised that I would've been extremely bored without my siblings... obviously Sydney isn't an only child but with Harry away, it sure must feel like it.

"Well I'm sure he'll be home soon, in the meantime... I can play with you, only if you want me too of course" I continued on in my 'Ken' voice.

"I think Sydney would like that Ken"

"Girls! It's time for dinner! Please wash up!"

We both jumped slightly at the sound of Matthew's voice coming from the kitchen. I let out a laugh as I gave Ken back to Sydney. She put the dolls away and I helped her up as she led me to the bathroom. I washed my hands first and then Sydney stepped up onto a little stool and washed her own hands. She guided me back into the kitchen where we then proceeded to help set the table with the plates and cutlery; along with a few cups. I watched as Matthew took a seat at the head of the table and Sydney took a seat next to him. Should I sit next to Matthew or Sydney? My mind was quickly made up when Matthew gestured for me to sit next to him, opposite to Sydney. I smiled back at him and made my way over to the seat.

"Water?" Matthew asked as he held the water jug over to me.

"Yes, thanks," I thanked him as I took the jug from him and poured myself some water.

"How about you Sydney? Water?" I asked her as I held the jug out for her.

"I'd love some... but I can't pour it on my own, dad doesn't let me," Sydney told me in a hushed tone as her hand went up to cover her mouth, so that her father wouldn't hear her.

"That's alright, I can help you,"

I giggled softly as I went to stand up to help her, but someone else entered the dining room and interrupted me before I could move any further.

"Don't worry, I've got it"
