"Faelar, she's coming!" my mother gasped. "Who's coming?" my father asked. "Her!" my mother said. "Esmeralda! She's come to reclaim the Stone!" she turned to me. "Thalia, you must go." she said. "Up in the mountains, there is a fortress. They will teach you magic and fighting skills beyond what your father and I have taught you." she reached into her dress and pulled out a red teardrop-shaped gem on a leather cord. "This is the Ancient Stone of Power." she said, hanging the stone around my neck and tucking it into my shirt. "You must keep it out of Esmeralda's hands. Take my staff as well." she handed me a tall, ebony staff with gold and jade inlay. My father took his sword belt from around his waist, and fastened it around mine. "Thalia, I give you my best sword, Anduril." he said. "It has served me well, now may it serve you well. I also give you my bow, Tempest, and my blessing." he placed his hand on my forehead. "May the sun be always be at your back, may you be swift and strong in battle, sé onr sverdar sitja hvass." he said. "Go now, Thalia." my mother said. "As the Seventh Daughter of a Seventh Son and a Witch, you are the only one who can truly wield the Stone. It is your destiny to topple Esmeralda from her throne." thus, my adventure began.
