Astrid turned to see a small boy with white hair sprouting everywhere.

"Ash!" He cried again, sprinting towards her.

He runs straight into her arms and Astrid holds him tight.

"You were supposed to be more careful, kid" she whispered.

"Homebase was raided" a voice behind her said.

She turned to see Travis standing behind her. He looks skinny. Too skinny. "Most escaped to a hideout, but we stayed as a distraction" he continued.

This boiled her blood. "They left Sparky as a distraction?" Her voice raised and she saw red.

"We're expendable" Travis shrugged. "We knew this".

"Bullshit" Astrid barked. "Neither of you are expendable those self-absorbed assholes!"

"Calm down Ash, we knew what we were getting into when we joined the resistance" Travis tried to placate me.

The resistance. Astrid helped them a time or two. It earned her the reputation of being trouble. Later it proved her to be dangerous.

Not everyone is happy with the aristocracy the Royals set up. The Resistance want a say in their own lives, even with their diluted blood.

Astrid didn't realize when Sparky let go, but he was looking at her expectantly. "I'm sorry, what?" She asked.

"I said that we need to get going if we want to get our meal for tonight". Sparky said impatiently.

"Lead the way" she replied.

While Sparky drags her deeper into the camp, she felt a sickening pit in her stomach. All she could think of is her friends dead on the battlefield. Dead for a never-ending war.
