A light dewy mist settled over the snowy valley. Large pines and beeches peeked through it, reaching for sunlight. A brownish-gray cat sat on a stone near a freezing pool, sitting tall on her slender legs and staring out over the vast landscape.
Suddenly, a rustling sound began, and the cat whipped around, ears pricked with alarm. But then, when the fluffy tabby appeared from an elder bush, she relaxed, it was only her brother, trotting clumsily after a rabbit. But his physique came to his advantage as he barreled into the rabbit, and pinned it down. Then with a swift killing bite, he collected his catch and rejoined his sister on the rock.
"Great catch! That should help Rabbit Paws recover faster." the she-cat mewed cheerfully.
"You think so, Fallen Pinnacle. But we need herbs much more, they will truly heal her."
"I agree," said Fallen Pinnacle as she leaped gracefully off the boulder to her brother's side, "But it's the middle of leaf-bare, and all the comfrey and tansy have been killed by the frost."
"Should we go down the mountain, where it's warmer?" Trembling Bough suggested.
Fallen Pinnacle turned her head, so she was looking towards the bottom of the mountain, she sat still for a second then turned back to her brother, "No, we can't leave our mother alone for too long, and we can't go by ourself, not to foreign land."
There was a glimmer of impatience in Trembling Bough's pale yellow eyes, but he nodded,"I guess. Let's just get this rabbit back to Rabbit Paws."
"Ok, and fast. She could be in pain, and we won't be there."

As the littermates arrived to the rocky gully den, the sound of there mother's raspy yowl was deafening.
"Hurry! She's dying!" Fallen Pinnacle cryed to Trembling Bough as he raced forward.
They entered the den to find Rabbit Paws rolling in her nest, yowling in agony, flailing her paws as if reaching for something to help her.
Fallen Pinnacle curled up beside her mother's head, licking her ears and cooing softly to relax her. After a while the fluffy gray cat, was breathing regularly and her golden eyes were open. She purred at the sight of her kits and nuzzled Fallen Pinnacle with here muzzle, "You're here.." she whispered softly.
"Please, eat this mother. We already ate some voles." Trembling Bough dropped the rabbit in her nest and pushed it towards her mouth with his paw.
"Thank you," Rabbit Paws mewed, as she bent forward to sniff the rabbit, then finally bit into it's flesh hungrily.
Fallen Pinnacle watched her mother as she ate, thinking about her mother's illness and swearing to herself because she didn't know what it was. Some days her mouth would foam, and other's it wouldn't. And sometimes her belly was bloated, but the next it was receding and empty, while her throat bled. It was beginning to consume all of their thoughts, Our mother isn't going to get better without proper care, but she nor Weasel Fang ever taught us about herbs, except the basics. She's dying and there's nothing we can do. Fallen Pinnacle sighed, then she nestled against her mother's shoulder and closed her eyes.
She listened to Trembling Bough as he waited for Rabbit Paws to finish the rabbit, then buried it in the snow outside, and dozed off at her feet. But Rabbit Paws slow breathing didn't sound so normal, her snoring was raspy and her mouth flapped.
Fallen Pinnacle sat up to check her mother, and squeled in fear as she noticed the foam spilling from her jaws.
"Trembling Bough! She's getting worse!" the she-cat yowled. The tabby tom woke up to check his mother himself and recoiled quickly.
"What are we gonna do?" he mewled, desperately trying to clean up the foam with moss.
Fallen Pinnacle sat with her head down, eyes watering, and a sad cry escaping her lips.
"We can't just let her die!" Trembling Bough screeched.
"I know, but what can we do?"
"We need herbs." her brother meowed.
Fallen Pinnacle was ready to snap at him and explain why that wasn't possible. But then she knew, that letting her precious mother die was not an option.
"I'll go, Trembling Bough. I'm gonna follow the downwards path of the mountain and forage for herbs."
"I though you said it was too dangerous, that we can't travel to a foreign region alone-"
"I know what I said, but listen to what I'm saying now, big brother." she licked the top of his head lovingly,"You take care of Rabbit Paws while I'm gone. I won't be long." Fallen Pinnacle nuzzled her mother's shoulder, that was wet with foam. Don't worry, I'm gonna fight for you, mother. Weasel Fang is already gone, and I won't lose you... she whispered softly into her mother's ear, then gave it a quick lick. Her mother seemed to recover for a moment, her golden eyes gleamed, then she was foaming again, and wincing in pain.
Fallen Pinnacle bounded towards the entrance, ignoring her brother's protests. "Take care of her!" she yowled over her shoulder as she took off into the dark night.
