Top dogs, every school that I've ever been to has had them. They're the most popular kids in school, usually the preppy cheerleaders and their jock football playing boyfriends. It's a group of people that you have to try with all your might to get accepted into. It's not that they're mean people, well, sometimes they can be bitches, but not all the time. Most of the time they're some of the coolest people to be around. They have close friendships with everyone in their top dog group; Which is why it's extremely hard to become a piece in the puzzle of the populars. It's for this reason, that I was shocked and amazed when I, the new student, was taken forcibly by the shoulders and pushed into said social group.
Maybe I should start from the beginning, yeah, that would probably help. I'm Sydney Quinton Franklin, but most people call me Frankie. I'm your normal tomboy-rocker chick who wears the various shades of black and black. A year ago, my father applied for a job in New York, without telling me or my younger brother Adam. We found out six months ago that we would be trading our quiet settled down life in Tennessee for the hustle and bustle of New York city life. My brother and I didn't argue, but there are days when we both wish we did. A month later I was hugging my best friend, Ashlyn, good-bye and climbing into my dad's black jeep; watching as my old life slowly disappeared out of view.
We spent the next two days crammed in that car practically screaming Bon Jovi, Blink-182, and Bowling For Soup songs at the top of our lungs. It was probably one of the best road trips I've ever had. The two weeks after that were spent "pimping out the house" as my dad put it. I helped him pick out new couches and a new dining table. To be honest, I basically decorated the whole house; the only rooms I didn't mess with were my dad's and Adam's. I tried as hard as possible to turn our fancy-ass apartment into the cosy living environment that we had been living in months earlier. If I must be completely honest, I did a pretty damn good job.
Aside from getting the family settled, I had to get Adam and I enrolled in school. Which I have come to find out that that seemingly simple thing is not as easy as they make is out to be. When I walked into Greensboro Intermediate School, I figured that I would just hand them his files and sign a few papers, that is not what happened. Between Adam and I, the process ended up being two weeks long. It was almost as if I was trying to house some dogs in a kennel. We had to go to the doctor at least three times. First we had to get a check up, the some shots, and then we had to go back to get the results of the shots. It all was just a pain in the ass. But, much to my brother's dismay, I was finally able to get us enrolled in school
So here I am now, 6 months later, sitting at one of those grey school lunch tables and listening to the populars talk about a big upcoming party.
"And I totally have the perfect outfit already picked out," Kaylee boasted. She was known around school as the main popular. Perfect body, perfect personality, perfect GPA, perfect boyfriend, for christ's sake, she's the complete package. She comes to school everyday like it's her wedding day. Her long brunette hair always pulled up into a high ponytail, name-brand clothes, face full of makeup and always a pair of UGGS on her feet. It's no secret that her family is filthy rich.
"Really? Tell me every detail, I want to make sure that I don't end up buying the same exact thing," Zoe joked and gave her long red hair a flip. Zoe is the second most popular girl in school. Her mom is the editor of some extremely popular magazine; One that I, until a month ago, had never heard about. She, like Kaylee, wore only the best of clothing brands and never left the house without her hair and makeup done.
"Well, it's this chic tight-red dress with a semi-sweetheart neckline, and I'll pair it with my new silver high-heels," Kaylee responded. "Hey Frankie?" My head shot up from where it had been resting on top my arms and I looked over at her.
