School was more normal the next day. Becca was a little more smotty and Ben more energetic. Ben confided everything in Adaline about hit night. How scary it was and how grateful he was to be alive. He said that without his dad he might be dead. His dad had used a shotgun and fought off some attackers. And to think that Adaline's house was right across the street. Why had she been put in this neighborhood? She asked herself this a lot. She feared for her friends more than ever now. Adaline struggled through the rest of the day with one leg. She continued the same routine everyday for weeks at a time. Adaline had no idea of what was to come. Of what was about to change her life.
