In the darkness we are lost, most senses useless to us. Adrenaline starts to rush, we hear things that arnt there. We were told as children that the monsters hid under our beds, or in our closets. I believe that is a lie. They hide in our mind.
The sheriff awoke in a cold sweat his room seeming darker then usual. As his eyes fluddered open he was met by a whisper outside his room "Ashton, wake up. Daddies here." He jumped from his bed running to the door "ash!" He called out but he could hear the voice still talking to her "open your window honey, its time to fly" he tried to open the door but it wouldn't budge, he yelled out again "ash!!!" Yet the door still wouldn't open, he heard the window creak as it opened. He threw his body against the door as hard as he could, praying it would open. When it finally did he almost fell as he went into a full run to his daughters room. "Ash no!" He screamed as he watched his daughters form sitting on the window seal about to tumble two story's down. "It's time to fly daddy". Her sleepy voice rang out in the silence, she pushed from the window her body about to plummit. A large arm wrapped around her ripping her back into the room, Alex grabbed his daughter holding her close to his chest. He felt like he couldn't breathe. Ash's small blue eyes peered up at him " what's wrong daddy?" He didn't answer. He just held her running his fingers threw her long brown hair. That's when he heard it again, the voice "good job Alex, lets see if you have the same luck later on." In all this fear Alex wasn't thinking straight, after breakfast he forced his wife to take their child. To get them away, to save them. "I don't understand daddy.. Why do we have to go to aunty Carol's?" Ash asked after being strapped into her car seat "because honey, aunt Carol hasnt seen you in a while. She will be happy you came." He answered, looking at his wife with sad eyes. "But what if Santa doesn't know where to take my presents?" Ash asked her innocent eyes filling with tears. "I'll call him just as soon as you go, I'll let him know you're staying there. Okay?" Ash nodded and Alex kissed his wife goodbye. "How long do you want us to stay there?" Chloe asked looking in the review mirror at ash. "Just until I know its safe." Alex answered in a soft tone. He had packed all their stuff before telling his wife that he needed them to go. He knew Chloe was conflicted about leaving him alone, but he needed to know they were safe. He watched as the car drove away, then he entered the home shutting the door behind him. He looked around the empty home and spoke in a pissed tone "you want to play, I'll play your stupid games. Just leave my family out of this." He waited for a reply, but only silence surrounded him. Until the voice rang out "perfect"
