This is a new story. Slow updates, as always, but xc season is over so I'll be less busy. Enjoy :)

Picture is not mine. Credit to the owner. That is Braxton.

It was always something new with William. One day he was happy and energetic, others he was a irritable and far too sad for that gentle brain of his to handle.

He was the light of the crowd, he could make anyone smile with a simple word and if he was around, everyone knew it. He was that brilliant gleam that led anyone out of the endless abyss they were in.

His laugh was my favorite, it warmed my heart to hear him laugh. Whether it was over what someone said or to break the silence. His laugh made others laugh. He is contagious.

Everyone knew his voice. All he would have to say was "Hello!" and a smile would spread on someone's face. He was infectious. He infected us all with joy, wonderment, and lust for more.

I'm not sure where it went downhill. Where he slowly became what he dreaded most. Slowly, yet surely, he was becoming shy. His laugh had become strained, basically forced.

I noticed it right away. This is my best friend here! I know him better than the back of my hand. He smiled less, he talked less, he even avoided eye contact.

I didn't know what dark, bastard had taken my best friend from me, but I wasn't thrilled about it.

I begged him to talk to me. Just anything! But I got nothing. He became distant. The person who is supposed to come to me for help became so unattached to his surroundings that he pushed me away.

It went like this for three weeks. Me trying to get his attention and pleading him to give me some sign of mental stability.

Then, just like a butterfly after landing on something still and then leaving at sudden movement, he left. Disappeared without a trace. This was so unlike William, that I didn't know to to react.

My best friend, of all people, abandoned me.
