The portal took them out to a building. Adam recognized it as the same place where Pyros died. He kept his sword up, as Kara followed him. He knew where to go immediately. He started making his way up to the roof. But as he opened the door to the roof and walked through, he and Kara found themselves in the parking garage under the building. The door behind them slammed shut, and Adam blasted it open only to find that it lead to a service room.

"Shit!" Adam said.

They heard a chuckle coming from the dark. Cain stepping into view. "You never did really learn how to use your magic, did you? You've really got to work on that. All Eve did was connect the roof door to that door, and break the loop when you walked through. If you paid even the smallest amount of attention, you would have noticed, and been able to break her spell."

Behind him was the elevator and the stairs. He drew his sword. "Sorry Adam, but Eve's ordered me not to let you through."

Kara gripped her own blade and stepped forward. "You protected me once Adam. Now it's my turn. I'll open a path, so go!"

"Don't die on me, no matter what," Adam said.

She smiled and replied "I already died once. Every second I spend breathing after that is a gift."

Kara charged at Cain and began to fight him, and he tried to repel her. She kept him on his toes while Adam ran passed to the elevator, but Cain threw a knife and it destroyed the elevator button. Adam cursed under his breathe, and opened the door to the stairs instead. He took one last lingering look at Cain and Kara battling, before running.

He took off up the stairs, as fast as he could. And this time, instead of using the door, he blasted it right off the hinges, and ran out to the roof.

Fate stood at the far end, collapsed on the ground, looking beat up. As she saw Adam, her eyes widened. "Behind you!" She screamed.

Eve jumped down from above the roof door, swinging her sword down. Adam rolled out of the way just in time and quickly ran at her, swinging his sword fast. She blocked his every attack, but it seemed both of them were holding back - both had many chances to injure the other, but they didn't.

"Stop this Eve! I know how hard this is for you, I know how much you want us to be together, but you have to stop!" Adam said as he continued to fight her.

She had tears in her eyes as she kept pushing with her katana. "No! I can't do it! I can't! We deserve to have a future together Adam! I'm going to make it happen no matter what!"

"Don't you get it Eve? No matter what you do, when my reincarnation learns the truth, he'll do the same thing! It's a part of my very being! I'll never agree to  sacrifice the rest of the world for my own selfish gain!"

She scowled. "I'll find a way. I refuse to accept this horrid fate. I REFUSE!"

She elbowed Adam and parried his sword, disarming him, and then swept his feet out from under him, knocking him on his back. She then held her sword out, preparing to thrust into his chest, but she hesitated. Her hands began to shake. She started to cry.

"The first time I killed you," she whispered. "It was so easy. I was just so hurt and upset, I felt betrayed by you. I felt like the Saints, especially Wyrd, turned you against me. I just... snapped. I saw red, and before I knew it, you were dying."

Adam nodded. "I know. It was my fault. I failed to see the darkness growing in your heart. You were terrified of being alone more than anything else, and I couldn't see that. And I'm sorry, for failing you, and for making you live alone for 1000 years. But doing this won't heal your heart Eve!"
