I chewed on my pencil. I was so mesmerized by Delilah that I didn't notice my brother honked the horn. I jumped at the loud sound and looked at him. He shook his head and left. I returned my attention back to Delilah. Kyle sat next to me and said hi. I greeted him back and kept my eyes on Delilah. She was now dancing to some song with her two friends. It was stupid, but I admired her stupidity. Kyle followed my gaze to her and shook his head.

"You suck, man." Kyle said, chuckling.

"What do you mean?" I said.

"I don't know why you're so in love with a ni-"

"What the fuck was you about to say?" I said, glaring at him.

"She's black, Luke." Kyle said, his voice laced with disgust.

"You're acting like the damn color defines her. She's sweet, kind, funny and the most carefree girl I know." I said. I really couldn't believe him.

"Yeah but, people like you shouldn't love her kind. It's wrong." Kyle scoffed. I was about to say something but I noticed Leslie standing in front of me.

"Luke! We have to show you something!" She pulled my arm. I practically got dragged by her. She dragged me to the field where Delilah and Sierra was waiting.

"Okay! So we have this cheer thing and we wanted to show you." Leslie said excitedly. I nodded and sat on the bleachers. They were all wearing matching white shirts and black shorts. I couldn't help but to notice how perfect Delilah's butt looked in those shorts.

"Oh shit, wait!" Leslie screamed. Her arm gave out and Sierra came falling. She fell on Delilah and they all screamed, falling everywhere. The real cheer team came up and laughed at them. They all looked down, embarrassed.

"The black girl is going to fight Kylie!" I heard lots of people say. I rolled my eyes as I was pulled by some random girl to the cafeteria quickly. I sat with her and saw Delilah sit down at a empty table.

"Why are you sitting here?" Kylie said, disgusted.

"Uh, I don't know maybe to, you know, eat?" Delilah said in a sarcastic tone.

"That's my original baby girl." I mumbled.

"Yeah but blacks aren't supposed to sit here." She said, twirling a strand of hair in her fingers. Delilah stood up and raised her eyebrows.

"The fuck did you just say bitch?" She said, putting her hands on her hips. Kylie repeated herself.

"If I wasn't so worried about getting suspended I would've fuck you up so bad." Delilah said, grabbing her bag. She started walking away.

"It's not about that. It's just that you're too scared to get your ass beat." Kylie said. Her group laughed and gave her high fives. Delilah turned around and started yelling at Kylie. She then pushed her. She shoved her way through loads of people and left the cafeteria. I was going to follow her but the girl held me down and gave me a glare. I sighed and sat quietly.

"She's not just a black person! She's much more than that!" I yelled at my mom.

"Luke, you're not going to fall in love with a person like that. It's wrong and the lord will not like that." My mom hissed.

"Oh really! Well I think that the lord would understand that love is love no matter what skin tone and gender! But I guess my own family doesn't understand!" I yelled, slamming my door shut. I locked it and sat on my bed. My moms pounding on the doors faded and I heard her walk away. Delilah didn't deserve to be treated like this. I thought all of this would be accepted. It's 2015. This should all be gone. But no one seems to get it. And it's just not right. I fell asleep, praying that the world would be a better place when I wake up. But it wouldn't be. It'll be the same old world that I've been on. And I would be in it until I die.
