(Serena is 10)

The wind rushed through my hair. Something was wrong with the water. Instead of crashing waves, they were still. I tiled my head and scrunched my eyebrows in wonder. Why? Why so still? I took of my sandals and waded into the water til I was ankle deep.

"Serena! Get away from there! It's almost lunch, then you can swim." Mother called.
I looked back and called,"Okay! I don't wanna swim,too deep."
I waded back out and put my sandals back on. I headed back to our beach house, in Maine. The old door creaked as I opened the screen door. I had been living here since I was born.
"Zoooommmmm!" My little brother,Simon, was playing with a toy plane,he was only five. I found him adorable, but sometimes annoying.
"Simon! Lunch. Your favorite, banana peanut butter!"
He dropped his plane right there and made a beeline to the bar table. He scrambled up the chair with trouble. It was cute,so I helped.
"Thank you!" "You're welcome,little guy."
He beamed at me and we all sat down.
"Who wants to pray?"
"I do!"
"Okay,Simon."
Simon prayed a cute prayer and we ate. I had a chicken salad,Simon had a banana peanut butter sandwich, and mom had some left over fish.
"Mom,trade me."
"No,no,you eat."
"Mom,have my salad."
"I said no!....you need more,you come first."
"Fine." I surrendered.

The phone rang.
"I'll grab it!" Mom yelled,
"Serena,it's for you."
I grabbed the phone.
"Hello."
"Hello Serena...you...," the voice started breaking up,"16.......go beneath........ Still.... Waters...Maine...near you.....remember... "
The line went dead.

"Really! You thought a phone would work underwater?!"
"Well,yeah. But,Serena?"
"For her,we must wait."
"6 years?"
"Yes,we will not wait long."
"Okay,5 years for her friend though."
"Ah yes,him."
