Camilla walked to school that day, shifting her flute into her bag and struggling to keep up with all her schoolbooks. She was about to drop her geology textbook when it was caught in the hand she knew so well. Wait, why did she have a geology textbook?
"Noah! Is anyone else here yet?"
"Nope. And the doors haven't opened yet either. So we have a little time alone." He grinned mischievously. "Come on!"
Camilla ran after him. She thought that sometimes, if it was Noah that ran with her in gym class, she could beat out the fastest kid in her class.
They sat down in their spot, a little grassy patch that sat under a great tree, alive with the blooming colours of fall. It was cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and it faced the playground at such an angle that they didn't have to offer themselves to conversation but could still see what was going on. And it had a friendly squirrel. As soon as her school books were out of her hands, Camilla's lips were pressed to Noah's.
It was a curious warmth she felt travelling up her back, and it wasn't just because Noah's hand was exploring her skin gently, as was hers. The kiss spread all over her with a certain glow, and she felt it fiery like the leaves above her, casting strips of sunlight into every place Noah touched.
She could have stayed there forever and ever, but Noah broke away and whispered, "They'll be arriving soon."
Camilla nodded reluctantly before whispering back, "Same time after school?"Noah smiled and said, "Tuesday is date night." Camilla laughed and reminded him, "You were away last Tuesday, that means we get double time!" Noah mocked sighing and whispered, more seriously, "Fine. But that doesn't mean our relationship goes down from its 10/10 status."
As soon as he was gone, Tamila felt a wave of exhaustion drape over her. Probably because of last night, when she had to use her rubix cube way too much because she was thinking of him. 73 minutes, she thought. 73 minutes until you can see him again.
Camilla talked with her friends, but they could tell she was distracted. She munched on her fig newtons absentmindedly, and thought about the time she and Noah watched Back to the Future 2.
"So," Noah asked with a smiled on his face. "What kind of name is Biff? It sounds like the noise you get when you open a bottle of soda." Camilla giggled; he was always making her laugh. They looked together at the last dumpling sitting in front of them, just in fronted the aforementioned soda. Camilla asked, "Who gets it?"
"We could cut it in half," Noah suggested, but Camilla shook her head. "It's no longer a dumpling. It is, at best, a small open-faced sandwich." Noah smiled at her and handed her the dumpling. She ate it, even though she was thinking of satisfying her taste buds elsewhere...
She was jolted back to the present by the smashing of a plate. Jacob couldn't assess the mess too much before he was pulled away by Evan and Caleb. She stared at it; it held the answers. "It's a wave!" she cried, dropping her fig newton. The whole class stared at her. Audrey and Daniella seemed to be trying not to laugh. And then, after ten seconds of absolute silence, somebody clapped.
It was her beloved Noah. He winked at her then sat back down. Her friends went nuts. But all she could think of was how his smile was going to be hers tonight.

She dozed off for five minutes before she noticed him arrive. Camilla awakened with a shriek when she felt a cold hand on her wrist and automatically called, "Danger! Danger! Danger!" Noah shushed her, "Hey, it's just me."She breathed. "How are you so quiet?" He whispered in her ear, "Shhh, I'm batman!" She laughed. "So, the Halloween dance is coming up," Noah pointed out. Camilla nodded. "Will you allow me to escort you?" She looked at him. "I thought we weren't telling people yet?"
Noah shrugged. "The way I look at you, they'll find out. Why not? I want to express my love every day of the week, like the time we built a blanket fort, formed a rock band at a comic book store, and went to a Neil Diamond concert. Camilla, when I look in your eyes and you're looking back in mine, everything feels not quite normal. Because I feel stronger and weaker at the same time. I feel excited and, at the same time, terrified. The truth is, I don't know what I feel, except I know what kind of man I want to be."
Camilla was sobbing by now. Noah took her hand and asked, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm so happy!" Noah laughed and said, "One doesn't cry because one is happy. One cries when one is sad. For example, I cry when you cry, because it makes me sad."
Smiling then, Camilla noticed a small box behind him. "What's that?" Noah grinned and placed it into their interlocked hands. When she opened it, Camilla saw a pair of beautiful earrings, two cats dangling from sterling silver strings. They were attached to a note that read, "You will always be my Zazzy."
Remembering she didn't have pierced ears, Camilla's face fell. She pointed at her earlobes, and Noah immediately understood.
"That's alright. We can take you to the mall tomorrow to get them done."
Shaking her head, Camilla sobbed, "No, you don't understand! If my mom finds out, she'll make me sit in the sin closet!"
So Noah just held her as she cried, and eventually her tears dried as his lips met hers once more.
Finally, Camilla pulled her mouth away from his gorgeous lips, savouring the moment. She looked into his deep blue eyes, still entwined on his lap, and he whispered a single word.
"Bam."
