"C'mon birthday girl! " Sameera tries to get me on my feet and drag me to the dance floor.

"Not now Sam!" I shout through the music, motioning at the waiter. "Another drink please. " I tell him giving back my empty glass.

"That's enough, Lulu. You should cut down on the alcohol. " I hear Charles saying from across the table.

I ignore him and sway my body to the rhythm of the music. "Just let her be, darling. It's her birthday. She has my permission to get drunk as much as she wants." Imani says out loud; giving me a wink.

I smile triumphantly just as the waiter comes back and hands me the another full glass.

"Lulu! " It's Charles' irritated voice again. " You should be more careful now more than ever. I won't let you do this."

I give him a cold stare."You have no right!" I snap back at him and walk away towards the dance floor.

"What was that about? " I hear Imani ask him from a distance but I keep walking away; desperately in need of a distraction.

I find Hakeem and drag him along and in no time we're dancing together. For a moment I forget why am so angry at Charles.

***

"We need to talk, Lulu." I look into Charles' pained eyes.

"There's nothing to talk about." I say, stepping out of the bathroom. He grabs my arm and pulls me back inside.

"Am not getting out of here until we settle this issue Lulu."

"You do realise this is a girl's bathroom for a reason, right?" I snarl at him. "Get out!"

He remains at the same position, arms folded at his chest. "It's my kid too. We made a mistake, but that doesn't mean we can't figure something out."

"A mistake?!?! Fuck you! "

I storm out of the room. Just in time to see Imani running off in tears.

"Shoot!"

I run after her; half angry and half worried.

"Imani please hear me out ." I approach her. But she takes her bag and walks out of the club. Sam and Hakeem follow her in deep confusion.

"Hey, Imani! Wait up!" Hakeem stops her just before she gets into a taxi.

"Please Hakeem. Let go of me!" She shouts. "It's your girlfriend who you should stop from hooking up with my boyfriend."

Hakeem looks at me then back at Imani. Charles arrives and stands next to Sam." It's not what it looks like Imani. It was a mistake. We had a fight and I needed someone to talk to.She's my bestfriend. I didn't think it would get that far."

I choke back the tears in my eyes.

A mistake?
