It was the rainiest day so far in the month, so Julie took advantage of it. Slide tackling left and right, sending everyone into the mud. But it was fun, even Alex who's afraid of nature had fun in the mud.
Today was basically a cool down session for the team. No one really wanted to sprint in the mud, so they just did a bunch of scrimmages.
Tobin has the ball and Julie came in for the tackle. She succeeded, but knocked Tobin on top of her.
The team erupted in laughter.
They got up, Tobin lending a hand to Julie.
"Well that was exciting" Megan Rapinoe laughed.
"You said it" Moe laughed with her.
"Okay! Focus ladies! Lets go!" Hope yelled from in goal.
They continued practice, and more than one person slipping on the ball or falling from another one of Julie's tackles. Christen took a shot and landed in a mud pile.
When she got up, she didn't look like a white girl anymore.
Tobin died of laughter as Christen cleared mud from her face. Everyone else saw what Tobin was laughing at, and they joined in too.
"Shut up Tobin" Christen laughed, flinging mud at Tobin, hitting her on the cheek.
"Eww" Tobin wiped the mud off her.
Tobin and Christen then started a mud fight. Even Solo joined in this one.
When it started to pour, the whole team was soaked and caked in mud.
Back in the locker rooms, Tobin tapped Christen on the shoulder, and got her with the shoulder trick.
"Hey" Christen chuckled.
"Got you" Tobin teased.
"Yep. You got me" Christen looked into her eyes.
"Hmm" Tobin was at a loss for words. Christen was so breathtakingly beautiful Tobin didn't know what to do.
Alex was the only witness of what was happening.
"Tobin" Christen said.
"Yes?"
"Don't look now, but we're being watched" Christen whispered.
"By who?" Tobin keeps a neutral expression.
"Alex"
"Oh" Tobin's stomach flattened. She didn't like being watched. Especially not by Alex, her other crush. It seems like forever since Tobin thought about Alex. Now, it seemed like a curse.
"Later Press" Tobin said, and walked away.
After practice, everyone gathered in the dining hall.
"Hey Tobin" Alex said.
"Hey Lex"
"Can I talk to you for a moment?" Alex asked.
Alex was worried. She was afraid of losing Tobin. Losing her to Christen.
"Sure" Tobin knew what was coming.
"Privately"
"Um, okay" Tobin was numb in fear. She could feel Christen's eyes boring holes into the back of her head.
Christen just stood there, fidgeting, watching Tobin leave the hall with Alex.
"You okay Press?" Carli asked.
"Yep! Just fine" She managed to say, then took her seat next to Carli and Hope.
Meanwhile in the hallway..
"Alex. You're taking crazy talk" Tobin laughed.
"Am I?" Alex asked. "Or is it just you and Christen getting a little crazy for each other?"
"You heard me say it. And I'll say it again. Christen and I are friends. Nothing more!" Tobin was getting angry. "Why does it matter to you anyway? It seems like you never really cared about me anyway!" Tobin yelled.
"Tobin.." Alex was on the verge of tears.
"I said it! Are you happy now?" Tobin yelled again.
"So you don't love me" Alex whispered.
"What? Speak louder" Tobin said.
"You don't love me" Alex said.
"You loved me?"
"God Tobin are you that oblivious?" Alex asked.
Tobin was brought back.
"You really did love me?"
"I said it already. Yes I do love you, even now" Alex said.
"Alex, I don't know what to say"
"Tell me the truth. Do you love me?" Alex asked.
