I sat bolt-upright with tears streaming down my face. I frantically rubbed my eyes, trying to rid them of the image of my Mother and Father, laying dead. I wiped my tears and hugged my knees to my chest as I tried to calm my heavy breathing and pounding heart. I told myself 'It was just a dream Abigail; you are safe in Bag End. Everything is normal...or at least, as normal as it'll ever be...' After awhile, I stood, finally ready to begin my day and forget the nightmare ever happened. I looked out my small, round window, the sun was shining, birds chirping, fellow Hobbits walking and greeting one another. I opened my window a bit and breathed in the fresh morning air. I turned and walked over to my dresser, only to have my eyes start watering again as they landed upon the last letter I had ever received from my parents. I picked it up and re-read it, like I do every day.....
'Dear Abby:
You're Godfather, has invited your Mother and I on yet another adventure. Thror, Thrain and Thorin will take care of you 'till our return. We trust that you will behave yourself under the care of our King. We shall be back before you know it Abby, we promise you. We love you very much and we will miss you greatly. Keep safe and do try to stay out of trouble. We will meet again soon my Love.
Love: Mum-ma and Pa-pa'
I set the note down and sniffled, wiping the tears building in my eyes. I took a deep breath and got dressed. I put on a white, frilly blouse and knee length, brown trousers, which my shirt was nicely tucked into, and I put on the locket Bilbo had given to me exactly thirty years ago.... I stood in front of my mirror and brushed the tangles out of my curly light brown hair. I looked at the reflection of myself once I was done and sighed.. My iridescent sapphire eyes staring right back at me... I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear before I turned from the mirror. I walked out of me bedroom and down a long hallway, into my pantry. I looked around at my plentiful supply of food, as most Hobbits should have, and I took some bread out. I walked into my kitchen and buttered my bread, eating it and having a small glass of ale to drink. After that, I began to clean up a bit, and once I had finished, I walked to the door, grabbing my sketch book and quill off the shelf, I walked outside, picking some flowers from my garden and headed off to Bilbo's.
I waved to other Hobbits when they greeted me with a "Hello!" or "Good morning!" I socialized a bit and almost didn't realize I had stopped at Bilbo's gate until I looked down and saw him sitting upon his bench, smoking his pipe, and hadn't noticed me yet. I giggled softly and he looked at me, taking his pipe out of his mouth, revealing a wide grin. "Why Abigail O'Brien, Is that you?" Bilbo teased me; I laughed my bell-like laugh and playfully rolled my eyes "Course it's me silly! Who else would I be?" Bilbo chuckled "Come in! Come and sit with me!" he patted the spot next to him, and I didn't hesitate to hop over the fence and happily plop myself down beside him.
I was not able to hide the wide grin that spread across my lips as I turned to face Bilbo, his beautiful hazel eyes met my sapphire ones, and I could see them twinkling in the sunlight, his wide smile was warm and welcoming, and his curly brown hair fluttered slightly in the breeze.... I could tell that I was blushing, from the heat on my cheeks, as I realized I was staring at him, so I turned my gaze down to my feet and Bilbo asked "So... How have you been? I haven't seen you for, hmm, two months now?" A pang of guilt hit me square in the chest and I looked up at him, trying not to get lost in his beautiful eyes as I spoke. "Well, I-I've been alright, I suppose...other than mourning for my lost family and friends more than usual... And what 'bout you Bilbo? How have you been of late?" Bilbo looked at me sympathetically as I explained about how I've been doing and spoke "I've been great, doing all the usual things, entertaining the odd guests. I'm doing especially well today, now that you're here Ari. I had a feeling that I'd be visited by someone today, I'm thrilled that that someone is you!" I felt my cheeks flame again, I'm sure they were bright red going by the smirk on Bilbo's face. "Oh Bilbo! Y-you are so sweet!" I said and poked his side, giggling softly as he squeaked and jumped slightly, with a giggle that was absolutely adorable. Bilbo gave me a teasing smirk and reached for me, I drew back. "D-don't you dare!" I said, standing up and Bilbo laughed "I'm not going to! I promise Abby!" I nodded and he took my wrist lightly and pulled me into him, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. I cuddled into his side, and let my head rest on his shoulder. Bilbo and I both stared out at the beautiful land of the Shire that lay before us. I lifted my head when I heard humming; I looked to the path and saw an old man cloaked in gray, with a pointed hat and gnarled staff walking up the path. He continued on until he reached Bilbo's gate and looked up at us from under his hat. Both Bilbo and I sat up straight and detached ourselves from one another awkwardly...
