Skyler's P.O.V

"Argh! I'm a pirate! And I'm going to feed you to the sea monster!" Harley yelled at me as he stood proudly at the top of the climbing frame. "Now walk the plank!" He said as he pointed to the slide.

"Not without a fight!" I giggled as I picked up my wooden sword and prodded him in the stomach with it. "Hey! That's not fair! I wasn't ready!" He exclaimed as he put his hand on his hips and pouted.

"Yes it is!" I laughed as I took his sword as well as mine and jumped off the climbing frame. "Your not playing the rules properly!" He shouted as he jumped off the climbing frame after me. "I am!" I shouted back with a smirk on my face.

"No your not! It's my game! I make up the rules!" He said as he snatched his sword back. "Who says its your game?" I asked as I prodded him with the sword again. "I do. Because I'm nine and your seven. And the oldest always gets to make up the rules." He explained.

But before I could argue back, we were interrupted by the loud sounds of police sirens starting off in the distance and slowly getting closer. "What's that?" I asked him. "It's the police again." Harley answered sounding a little nervous. "Have they come to talk to your daddy again?" I asked without thinking. "I don't know..." He mumbled.

Just then, three police cars turned up outside Harley's house on the opposite side of the road and six police officers surrounded his house with guns. I couldn't hear what was said but I heard a lot of shouting and screaming.

Suddenly, Harley's father came out of the house with his hands raised above his head. The police officers pushed him to the ground and cuffed him. "What are they doing to him?" I asked impatiently. "I...I don't know!" Harley screamed.

Just then I saw my mother come running out from her house next door to Harley's. She took one look at the police cars and headed straight towards me. I dropped my wooden sword as she picked me up and headed for our house.

"But what about Harley?" shouted at her. She said nothing. "We can't just leave him at the park!" I pleaded. Still she remained silent until we got into the house. "Now listen Skyler. I want you to have nothing more to do with that boy Harley. Do you understand? His daddy is a very bad man and I don't want you to talk to him or his family." She said sternly as she gripped hold of my shoulders.

But he's my friend!" I exclaimed. "No he's not! Not anymore he's not anyway. You have plenty of other friends. Now promise me you will not associate with that boy? I couldn't help it. I had to. "Okay I promise." I whispered as I looked down at my feet.

"Good girl." She said giving me a big hug. "Just remember that I'm only trying to protect you sweetie." She said softly. I never really knew what she meant by that. But I didn't question it.

After my mother left the room, I ran to the window and peered outside. I saw Harley on the park in tears. His mother was just walking over to him as his father was being put inside the back of the police car. As Harley's mother walked back from the park with a very upset Harley in her arms, I watched a police officer walk up to her and whisper something to her, clearly in an attempt to prevent Harley from hearing what he had just said.

His mother then walked back to her house with tears just starting to prick at her eyes. And then it was over. The police left with Harley's father, he and his mother went back inside their house, Neighbours stopped peering through their windows. And as I promised my mother I never spoke to Harley again.
