Why so dense human?!

I took a quick glance to my right. Sitting halfway across the room, sitting in my chemistry class, sat an individual I considered to be the perfect human being. Sure to others he wasn't model material, he wasn't flawless, nor was he what people considered normal. But to me he was the apple to my pie, the laces to my sneakers, and the blue to my blueberry! I'm not sure if he needs me but I sure as hell needed him. Besides, he made me feel emotions that I didn't know I could have felt the least he could do was take responsibility.

He lifted his head and I spun mine around to face the whiteboard. I dare not turn my head around to face him. I'm hopeless I know but I've never held his gaze. If I did, it'd be the equivalent of being baked in an oven on high. His gaze would melt me and I'd begin to feel hot and awkward. But there was something about his dark chocolate eyes that made me feel secure. I shook my head vigorously and tried to concentrate on what my teacher was saying. She was droning on about something to do with the reactivity series when the bell rang. Is this what people called being saved by the bell? I took everything on my desk and proceeded to shove them into my book bag. I grabbed my history notes and made my way towards the test I was surly going to fail. I know it made no sense but I might as well get some studying in on my way to history. I was half way to my class when someone called out to me.

"Nicole!"

My face twitched in annoyance. Did this person not see I was busy? I spun around to see who it was when I felt my heart do a flip flop. There he way, Tyler Johnson, slowly jogging towards me. If I wasn't so busy trying to learn the material on the paper, then maybe I would have taken notice of his voice. My palms turned sweaty and believe it or not my tongue felt heavy. I don't think I was mentally prepared for this conversation.

"Hey," he said, with a smile that instantly made me forget my name.

"Hey you," I replied back with a goofy grin. What was I, stupid?

"Listen, I didn't get a chance to copy the notes off the board in class. Did you get them?"

"Yeah," I answered back. Is it just me or was the hall getting hotter.

"Great. Meet me after school at the Spot okay?"

"Sure," I replied, feeling like I'd just ran a marathon.

He gave me a tiny wave and jogged towards his next class.

The Spot was a little shack a few feet away from the school. It was where everyone hung out and I'd just agreed to meet Tyler there. I hadn't realized until he jogged away. What was I thinking? Right, I wasn't thinking at all.

Oh bloody hell.....

*Ring*

The sound of the bell made me jump. To others it signaled the end of school, to me it signaled something big. Yes I know, I'm making a huge deal out of something this small, but for some reason I felt like I was about to be pushed off of a cliff. I'm not saying meeting my crush was that scary but it was close enough.

I walked down the hall towards the double doors. The fresh air relaxed me as I slowly excited the school and made my way towards the Spot. I've never realized how close the two were before until now. Once inside, I did a three sixty turn to see if Tyler had arrived first. Sure enough there he was, at the counter, trying to balance a smoothie in one hand and his text books and book bag in another. Taking big awkward steps I walked towards him and offered to help. He smiled and handed me the smoothie. His long slender fingers brushed against mine and it took all the energy I had in my body to not drop the smoothie. I kept my eyes on him as he gracefully placed his books in his bag. Was it even possible to look that good while packing your school bag? He looked up at me with a confused look.

"Is there something on my face?"

"Huh?" I replied.

"Is there something on my face?" he repeated.

"Why would you ask that?"

"Well, you were looking at my face funny."

Shit. I hadn't realized I was staring at him.

"There's nothing there," I said sheepishly.

"What about chemistry class?"

"Huh?"

"You usually look at me like that in chemistry class."

I blinked a couple times before what he had said finally registered into my brain. He caught me staring at him in class? Damn! I thought it wasn't that obvious.

"Oh, um, I wasn't looking directly at you I was um...." I trailed off.

I tried to think of a perfectly reasonable explanation for staring at him in class with a goofy grin on my face. Frankly, I had nothing.

"I was looking out the window," I said.

"At the tree," I continued.

I mentally slapped myself. What the heck was I thinking using such a lame excuse?

"Oh, okay," Tyler replied with the confused look he had on his face before doubling.

I shuffled through my binder for my chemistry notes, desperate to leave.

"Here you go," I said stretching my arm out towards him.

"Thanks," he said as he placed them in his binder.

"Bye then," I said.

I gave him a little wave and practically ran out of the building. I didn't stop running until I got to my house. There was no way that I was going to trust myself not to say something stupid in his presence. I took a deep breath as I grasped the door knob. Oh well, there was always tomorrow. I thought.
