Aries strolled through the school's front doors, wearing a look that he hoped gave the impression of fierce nonchalance. He wore a red v-neck with khaki shorts, sneakers, and a smirk that meant nothing but trouble. He clutched his skateboard at his side, hoping it would fit in his locker. It was Aries's preferred method of traveling, since it was efficient and managed to make him seem more cool. He still didn't understand why Sagittarius insisted on riding a bike to school. It wasn't exactly the edgiest mode of transportation. Skateboard in hand, Aries went off to find his homeroom, but not before wandering around first. If he had to be there, he was going to be fashionably late.
--------------------------------------------
Aries walked into room three-oh-nine, just shy of the bell. To his dismay, the teacher didn't penalize him for being five seconds late. It would have been a good way to start off his reputation at the new school. His district was strange - high school didn't begin until sophomore year, which he was just now starting.
Aries looked around for familiar faces to talk to. Aquarius and Capricorn were deep in a conversation and arguing about something quite loudly. Probably about the recent book they've read. Boooring. He spotted a girl named Cancer near them. She looked like she wanted to be let in on the conversation but didn't know how, since the other two were pretty intimidating. Not as intimidating as him, though. He decided to avoid the scene, and not just for the sole reason that he didn't care for books; he and Aquarius had been involved in a prank war since the beginning of last year. Aries had made the stupid mistake of saying that girls didn't have a very good sense of humor, after he had made Pisces cry with one of his pranks. Aquarius, being the feminist that she is, was outraged. The very next day, his house was tipi-ed, there was a goat in his backyard, and a large poster of Rosie the Riveter was pasted to his front door. Ever since, they have been going back and forth, one prank after the next. The most recent had been his doing; he had switched her sun tan lotion with sour cream when their group of friends went to the beach. She fell asleep with it on, making her stink the rest of the day. Aries was bound to get hit hard with the next one.
In fact, as Aries passed her by on the way to the back of the room, Aquarius caught his eye and gave him a devilish grin. He tried not to gulp.
--------------------------------------------
First period was chemistry. Aries arrived to find Leo in the same class. He looked like prep had thrown up all over him.
"Hey, man," Leo greeted him with one of those half-handshake, half-bro-hugs. They caught up over what they had done in the past two weeks, which was the last time they had seen each other. The teacher just droned on and on and on about safety procedures and yadda yadda yadda so Aries and Leo just sat in the back and made snarky comments about the people at the school. Mostly about Scorpio. Aries just hated that guy, not really for any particular reason. They just annoyed the crap out of each other, most likely because they both liked to be seen as intimidating. But, sadly, Scorpio was friends with Aries's friends, which meant that they had to see each other on a regular basis. It didn't mean that Aries had to like the guy, though.
The next couple of periods were uneventful, and before Aries knew it, it was time for lunch. He got in line and bought his food. There was no way he was going to look like a pansy by packing a meal. Aries scoured the cafeteria with his eyes, looking for his squad that he normally sat with. Among the sea of blurred and unfamiliar faces, he managed to spot Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius. Leo, Gem, and Sag, are Aries's best friends, and Aquarius is tight with Gem, so she sits with them, too. She occasionally makes Virgo tag along as well. Sometimes Aries wondered if Gemini and Aquarius had a "thing" going on, but he didn't really care enough to find out.
He sat down in between Gemini and Sag, Aquarius directly across from Aries, and Virgo and Leo on either side of her. They finished their food and began to talk about which teachers they had and new people they had recently met. Not interested in such mundane topics, Aries attempted to change the subject.
"How can you all be excited about this?" Aries exclaimed. "This is the beginning of the death of our freedom! Once again."
Aquarius scoffed. "You're just a bit melodramatic today. Is it that time of the month?"
Aries glared at her. The others snickered (except for Virgo, who was reading), and he glared at them too. "You'll be the ones that are bleeding if you don't shut your mouths." Then he stormed off.
--------------------------------------------
As Aries was walking through the halls, he noticed that the people passing by were looking at him funny. He would shoot them an menacing look and try to ignore it, but after it happened quite a few times, he knew something was up. He made a beeline to the nearest men's room and looked in the mirror. Hair? No, it held its usual waves. Face? Looked the same as always. What could it be? His clothes?
Aries looked down. There were no stains on him as far as he could see. He growled at his reflection, irritated that he was being so self-conscious. He turned to walk away, but right as he was opening the door, Aries caught a glance at something on his bottom. It was stained red by something, presumably dye. Something smelt fishy, and this had Aquarius written all over it. He laughed, despite himself. She was going to get hit back, and hard. Aquarius had it coming for her.
