"Would you just shut up already?!" I yelled at Libra, who would not stop complaining about how his feet hurt.
"I'm sorry, it's just that we've been walking for hours and I'm tired," he sighed. Well he's not wrong. We've been walking for the past few days, trying to make our way to Constellation Forge by the end of the week, but we still had a long way to go. Our group had formed about a month ago, picking up survivors here and there. I remember when I had joined; I was cornered by a couple of walkers and out of bullets, and Scorpio and Capricorn happened to find me and put the zombies out of their misery. Since then, Virgo, Pisces, and Libra have joined us.
"Don't worry princess, we'll be setting up camp for the night soon enough," growled Capricorn. Libra just glared at him and kept on trudging. Those two did not get along.
I looked at Virgo and she gave me a smirk. "How long do you think it will be until those two go at each other's throats?"
I scratched my chin, pondering the question. "I'd give it another two days."
Virgo looked ahead at the males, who were elbowing and shoving each other as they walked, like a pair of annoying siblings. She looked back at me and shrugged. "I'd give it sooner than that."
A few hours later, Scorpio and Capricorn were setting up the sleeping bags, discussing battle strategies as the rest of us unpacked our supplies. They were childhood friends, and were as close as a boy and girl could be without having romantic feelings for each other. Although, maybe. Who even knows with those two?
Virgo and Pisces were eating some peanut butter sandwiches that they made, while Libra and I were taking watch.
Libra was looking at the ground, with a sad, far away look in his eye. I felt a little pang in my heart, wondering what this boy was going through. I nudged him and he looked up into my eyes with his hazel ones. I gave him a reassuring smile and said,"Want to talk about it?"
He contemplated my question for a moment, then turned around and looked at Scorpio and Capricorn. "See those two? They've known each other since forever. This may be the zombie apocalypse, but at least they know that their best friend is safe and sound." Then he looked back at me. "This one guy and I have been best friends our whole lives. We've been inseparable, but after the first wave of walkers struck out, him and his family fled, and I haven't seen him since. He's just my best bro, and I miss him. Do you get it?"
I sighed and put my arm around Libra's shoulders. "Of course I do. My best friend fled too. Plus my family is gone. I miss them all." I let a tear escape from my eye, but felt him brush it away.
"It's okay," Libra said. "We all have each other now." We sat, watching the sun set, until Capricorn called out to ask who was taking first watch. Virgo volunteered.
-time lapse-
I woke up to the sound of a scream, and bolted upright. Scorpio and Capricorn were already up, with their weapons ready. We looked into the darkness, waiting for Virgo or whatever had made her scream.
All was silent...
"ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?!" A person who wasn't Virgo, yelled out. "SOMEONE TAKE THIS GODDAMN BASEBALL BAT AWAY FROM HIM, I SWEAR TO GODS."
Six people appeared from behind the trees, one of them helping Virgo up from the ground. The girl who had yelled out had brown and blue ombré hair, and she was furiously whispering at the boy holding the baseball bat, who had light brown hair and reddish brownish eyes. She looked like she was about to strangle him. Based on the huge bruise on her leg, I can only imagine that was why she was pissed. I examined the rest of them. Other than the two that were arguing, there were three guys and one girl. A sweet-looking boy was propping Virgo's arm on his shoulder, helping her stay up and profusely apologizing. The girl was rolling her eyes at the fighting individuals, a tall boy looked like he was about ready to jump in and kill the baseball bat kid, and the final boy was just face palming himself at his friends' antics.
"What the hell is going on?" Capricorn spoke up over them. He looked to Virgo for answers.
She sat on the ground, with a little help from the blonde boy, and began telling the story.
"Okay so I was keeping watch, just like I said I would, until I heard a noise coming from ahead. I grabbed my knives and slowly walked towards the sound, when this guy-" she gestured at baseball kid, "-let out a war cry and hit me in the leg with his bat. Thank goodness the girl with the blue in her hair held the dumbass back."
The girl with the blue laughed out loud, while the guy looked offended. "You know what?" She said. "I think I like you."
"Who are you guys anyway?" Scorpio asked them.
Blue girl waved and spoke, "The names Aquarius, and this ass," she elbowed the boy, "is Aries."
The rest of them began introducing each other. I learned that the girl was named Leo, the tall boy was Sagittarius, and the boy helping Virgo was named Cancer. The boy in the back had yet to introduce himself. I could barely make out his features through the dark. "Hi I'm-" he began, when someone from behind me ran and flung themselves at him. I stared, confused, at my comrade who was now hugging this stranger.
"Gemini!" He exclaimed.
"Libra?" The boy backed away from my dirty blonde friend, bewildered. "It's you!" They then did an elaborate handshake which was really fast and hard for my eyes to follow. Then they turned to us and Libra put his arm around the boys shoulder.
"Everyone, this is my best bro in the entire world and his name is Gemini."
