A strange and repulsive smell filled my nostrils as soon as I opened the door which caused my nose to scrunch up in disgust and I took a full view of the room. The room was extremely filthy, dust covering the floor and spider webs on the ceiling, the bed looked somewhat unique and straight out of a horror movie.
A rocking chair was placed besides the window and that's from where the noise was coming from. The windows were open. Must be the wind I said to myself before marching up to the window and closing it.
My breath hitched in my throat as I looked at the window. A red mark that of a hand was printed and looked fresh as new. I moved closer to examine it.
My fingers touched the liquid and I was sure that it is blood. But it looked so fresh and no one has been here. They said that it was an abandoned house.
Something is seriously wrong with this place and this town.
After closing the window I turned around and walked towards the door only to be stopped by the same noise which brought me here before.
Creek Creek
Creek Creek Creek CreekI don't know why but my hands started sweating and some form of fear and doubtful thoughts started to cloud my mind.
Mustering up all the confidence and courage I had at that instant, I turned around to face the chair only to be greeted with nothingness.
"Amelia, where are you?" Rodriguez's voice brought me back to earth and I discarded all the thoughts off of my mind before locking the door and going down the stairs.
"Yes?" I asked him monotonously once I stood in front of him and tried my best not to show any sign of emotion on my face."This place looks really creepy, don't you think we should find another place?" asked Rodriguez with a hint of fearfulness in his eyes.
"I don't think that's necessary. We are here for work and not on a vacation.Maybe you should try to get past all that Boogie-Man crap and face the real world I may suggest. I am making lunch meanwhile you and Charles can do a little exploring and tidy up the rooms where you are going to sleep."He nodded and started walking towards the room only to be interrupted by me once again.
"Oh and Rodriguez, we have some documents to go through over the night. First thing in the morning is to reach the murder point. Inform Charles , okay?"He nodded once more before giving me a weak smile and going inside the room leaving me alone in the hall.
I walked inside the kitchen and asked myself again why am I doing this?
"Because you are not a pathetic loser and you need to prove that point in front of everyone" I muttered to myself as I took the packet of macaroni and cheese which we were going to eat for the next 10 days because Charles is a goof head and knows nothing about food, heading towards the stove with a steel bowl and getting on with the cooking.
---------------By the time I got finished, Charles and Rodriguez settled down in their rooms, steadying my room in the process because they are gentlemen. I noticed that my clothes were completely ruined because first of all I didn't know how to cook and secondly because I have a bad habit of forgetting things.
I placed the food on the center table which was placed in the hallway.
We all ate in silence which is a good thing because I made shitty food and the fact that they were not saying anything about it made me feel more horrible.
"All right guys. These are all the files" I said placing a big bundle of files on the table before sitting down.
"Apparently Richard thinks that it's best for us to keep working while we are here because we are lucky people who get paid and he is an arsehole" I said with a sarcastic smile on my face before grabbing one of the files and started working on it.
Richard asked us to re do the files because the files were very old indeed with little errors and ink vanishing here and there.
"Rodriguez , can you pass me that file"
"Rodriguez is too formal Amelia, call me R. You all make me seem like a 40 year old anyways"
I smiled at him before grabbing the file he handed out to me and saying "Thanks R, I am Amelia but you can call me whatever you want"
"Third party feels ignored" said Charles before putting his head won on the table again.
I smiled at him and continued to work for merely half an hour when I saw a shadow passing from the edge of the kitchen and into darkness. Charles and R couldn't see it because their faces were in front of me and we were sitting opposite to each other, me facing the kitchen.
Following my instincts, I got up from the chair and walked towards the kitchen.
"Hey, were are you going?" asked R.
"Thirsty. Getting some water"
With that I walked inside the room where I saw that shadow going. I didn't know where I was going but I was feeling a little uneasy as if someone was watching me.
It's just your mind. Calm down.
I sighed before turning back and then suddenly, I froze.
I froze as she started coming towards me. I wanted to run but my legs didn't allow me , I wanted to scream but nothing came out of my mouth and she started gliding towards me.
We were face to face and I saw her head rising up and my eyes widened. My breath stopped for some seconds and I was terrified.
Black. Everything Black. No lips, just teeth.
Her mouth started stretching as if she was smiling and I shivered as her pitch black eyes stared into my silvery-blue ones. Her long dirty black hair flowing to the rhythm of the wind. She came closer to me and said one word. One word that sent shivers down my spine.
RUN
And I did. But not before screaming at the top of my lungs. I reached the door and suddenly the lights went out and so did I.
All I remember before closing my eyes was her wicked laughter and devilish smile.
