I told him everything, I told Richard each and everything.

"Are you out of your mind? You know that things don't work like this here Amelia. You are acting like a child. We are FBI agents not some street police. FBI agents don't waste their times on such insignificant cases" Yelled Richard at me after I told him about my plan.

"But Richard, they haven't found the murderer and it's not a suicide case either. I can work on this case. You know I need this case or else nothing would be left. Everything will be over for me. You know I was too hung up on James death that I passed every fucking opportunity, you have to consider it"

"Fine, fine I will inform the sheriff of Greenville and I will send some people with you but keep this in mind Amelia, you have only ten days for solving this case and this is your last chance and I expect you to take it seriously" Said Richard in a some-what calm voice.

"Thanks Richard. I definitely owe you" with that I gave him a weak smile and walked out without uttering another word.

"Oh and Amelia"

I turned around.

"Pack your bags and whatever necessary things. You are going there right now. I will call the sheriff and make sure you get to have a decent place to stay. Charles and Rodriguez are coming with you. Take care of yourself. Okay?"

"Okay Richard, thanks"

Without wasting any further time I went straight to my home and picked out some professional looking clothes and necessary stuff and packed them neatly.

All set and ready to go, just one thing left.

I walked over the little table placed besides my bed, picked up a photograph, mine and James picture to be exact and looked at it with strong emotions as if I was trying to bring him back.

"I miss you and I love you and I will fight for you James. I really will"

I placed the photograph in my bag and then zipped it. Now I am really ready to go. I switched off all the lights and checked everything once more before writing a note and placing it on my front door.

Usually, no one comes to visit me because mom and dad know how tough my job is and I have no sibling. No relatives either since both of my parents were orphans.

The bag wasn't that much heavy and was easy to carry down the stairs because the elevator still wasn't working. I should have complained about the elevator but now it doesn't matter.

I walked outside and into the fresh and cold air looking at both the sides of the road, waiting for Charles and Rodriguez because Richard texted me that they will pick me up.

Finally, the came and I hurried over to the car because I can't stand the cold for long. It's funny because I'm such a cold person yet I can't stand cold weather.

Charles took my back and placed it in the back before motioning me to sit in the back seat.

I take a glance at my apartment before sitting in the car and making myself comfortable and absorbing heat from the surrounding.

The 2 hours ride was silent but oddly comfortable.

I watched the signboard of Greenville and straightened myself, some people might find it annoying but I like to be proper all the time.

"We are here" Charles announced as we reached a small place which I assumed was the police station. I quickly got out of the car and walked as if I was the leader.

A tall, stern looking man around 40, his hair jet black and skin fair started walking towards us as if he knew us. He stopped in front of me, stretched his hand, a smile on his lips and said

"Afternoon Miss Jones, hello Mr. Charles and Rodriguez. Richard informed me about you all. I am Stephan Caleb and the sheriff of this town. Please come inside so we can discuss the matters"

I shake his hand so did Charles and Rodriguez before going inside.

"Richard said that you are here for the murder case. It's not business ton interfere but if I may ask, why Miss Jones are you so interested in this case. It is nothing but a puzzle, we tried our best but still couldn't conclude whether it was a murder or not" Stephan asked me as soon as we all were seated and given water.

"Call me Amelia please. The case is difficult and I like mysterious cases. I will not trouble you anymore, Richard told us that we will have a place to stay. Can you show us the place? We will start our investigation, first thing in the morning"
I said to him with a smile.

"Ah, about that place Miss Jones, sorry Amelia. We do have a place but people say that it's haunted. You see, we were not been able to arrange a place in such a short notice of time and I am afraid you will have to spend the night there for two or three days."

"I don't believe in supernatural incidents Stephan, I believe in logic. If that place is good enough then we will stay there till the case ends. Take us there without wasting any further time"

"Yes, Amelia"

***********

The house was very near and we reached there in only 20 minutes.

"We are here" announced the sheriff and I got out of the car.

I could literally see why everyone said that it was haunted. It was old , really very old and it gave a vibe that no one has lived in here in ages. The garden was pretty big but extremely dirty with untrimmed trees and bushes. People often assume that if a house is closed for too long then it's haunted but I don't believe in such things.

"Go take a look inside, I will bring the bags and park the car" said Charles from behind.

Stephan gave me the keys and a map of the town and of course his phone number before going away because apparently he was scared, you could it in his eyes.

I opened the door and stepped inside. Dust, so much dust. My footsteps echoing while I was taking a good look at the house. The walls were big and the things placed in here were old and by old I mean royally old. Rodriguez was exploring the insides and I was going up the stairs.

The paintings placed on the walls were really beautiful but gave me an odd sensation as if they were staring through me.

Don't let Stephan get to your head I said to myself whilst pushing out those stupid thoughts from my mind.

I snapped my head at the direction from where the voice was coming but I saw nothing. I stepped forward and started walking towards the only door at the end of the floor.

It seemed like someone was behind that closed door , sitting on a rocking chair.
I reached at the door , twisted the doorknob and opened up the door.
