Melanie

Brody was definitely on my hate list. I couldn't believe what he just said to me. Brooke and Natalie were staring at me as I looked past them to watch Brody walk out the front doors. I hated that kid.

"Don't worry about that jerk." Natalie said as she layed her hands on my shoulders and turned me around. We walked down the hall and turned a corner to the girl's bathroom to change for cheer tryouts.

We walked outside to the track and field for tryouts and made our way to the bleacher's.

"Why aren't we having cheer tryouts in the gym?" I asked Natalie as I looked around at the other girl's who were busily chatting and fixing their hair and make-up.

"Basketball practice." She replied rolling her eyes.

It was hot and sunny, at least I was getting a free tan.

"Alright ladies!" The cheer coach, Becky, exclaimed as she held up her clipboard in her hand. She was short with short blonde hair and piercing blue eyes with a strikingly mean personality. The assistant coach was coach Jenna who was the opposite of Becky. Jenna was tall with olive-colored skin and light brown hair and dark brown eyes. She was more nicer than Becky.

Becky went on. "Jenna and I are going to put you girl's into groups of four." She said loudly as she held up four fingers as if we couldn't count. "We will be giving you cheers and short dance routine's. The list of people who makes it on the team will be plastered outside of the gymnasium door tomorrow morning. Let's get started!"

It was either now or never. I stood up along with twenty other girl's and walked down the bleacher's to the track where Jenna counted us off in groups of four. I was with Brooke, a girl named Kellie who was in my english class, and a girl who was new at Quinton high.

Jenna stood before us and yelled out a cheer that we had to shout out.

"KNOCK EM' DOWN, ROLL AROUND, COME ON PANTHER'S WORK!" She yelled as she clapped her hands together. "Your turn."

I looked over at Brooke who was smiling with confidence. I bet I looked akward beside her.

"KNOCK EM' DOWN, ROLL AROUND, COME ON PANTHER'S WORK!" The girl's yelled.

"GO PANTHER'S WORK!" I stopped when I realized that I had messed up. "I mean...uhm."

Jenna laughed and waved her hand at me. "It's okay." She said smiling. "It happens all the time. Let's try it again but I only want to hear Melanie."

My eyes went wide when she said this. I looked over at Brooke who clapped her hands encouragingly.

"Ready?" Jenna asked. I nodded, not really sure if I was really ready.

I counted in my head, five, six, seven, eight, and cheered. "KNOCK THEM DOWN PANTHER'S, AND ROLL AROUND LET'S WORK!"

Jenna cocked her head to the side with her eyebrows furrowed and shook her head slowly. "Let's move on." She said.

Jenna started doing really complicated steps. Turns, kicks, I couldn't do it.

"Okay." I whispered to myself. " I can do this."

Jenna pointed to Brooke who did each step beyond perfectly.

I clapped my hands for my best friend who smiled and curtsied for some odd reason.

Jenna went on to the next two girl's who did equally as good as Brooke and than Jenna pointed at me. "Remember Mel," She started as she looked right into my eyes. "Turn, step out with your right foot, step out with your left foot and throw your hands up, turn, kick your right leg over your left leg, turn than pose."
