Hello everyone, and welcome back to Virus! c:

I have some (slightly) exciting news... as of today, along with writing Virus's final four chapters (29, 30, 31, and epilogue are what remain after this one), I'm going to begin planning on my next story! I've decided on another Cube fic, as that seemed to be the popular request on the poll from a couple weeks ago, in addition to the fact that I already had an idea blossoming for another Cube fic. I don't know much about it yet (I only have a vague idea and a rough synopsis that needs editing, especially after I plot the thing eventually), but I'll be sure to release more details as we go! We still have a whole month left of Virus, after all.

We had the PSAT yesterday. Bleh. The math section was terrible and I didn't finish at least 10-15 math questions because I ran out of time. I hate testing.

Also, Emily and I are going on a road trip this weekend! Granted, it's only two to three hours away and only for Saturday/Saturday night, but I'm kind of eager anyway. Though I won't have any weekend time to get ahead on WHAP notes... I guess it may be good for me...

This chapter is a little cryptic, but I'm actually really happy with how it turned out, and my betas agreed. I think I had just finished Queen of Shadows (the 4th Throne of Glass book) when I wrote it, hence the dark aspect...

The snap was what broke me, in the end.

Spasms shook me as that wire in my mind, that thin connection to light, shattered abruptly, sending pain and fear flowing anew in my veins. I screeched, thrashing wildly in an attempt to escape it all. Then emptiness filled my being, and I sagged, feeling the fire fueling my fight begin to fade.

Nano cackled. "It's over, Jordan. The resistance is gone; just let go."

"No," I whispered, trembling as the cold shards dug into my skin and held me up by my wrists. "No. He can't be dead, Grape never would have let him..."

"You think my brother could have saved him?" Nano sneered from the darkness. "He's confined to his mortal body, unable to enter this plane of existence with anyone but his precious chosen. He knew exactly what he was doing, and now it's cost you. This battle is finished."

"No," I panted again. "Will..." I choked on my words, shaking my head in disbelief and not even caring when Nano slipped up to me, red eyes gleaming with pleasure.

"Alpha may have robbed me of my chosen, but I destroyed his in the process. An eye for an eye, and now the cards are in my favor. I'm afraid this concludes our little war, my friend." Quick as a flash, his obsidian sword was out, slicing open my stomach. I didn't even scream as black liquid, thick and dark as ink, began seeping out of the cut.

My resistance crumbled and my walls fell. I closed my eyes, breaths ragged, and welcomed the shadows that slipped into my head.

He couldn't recall how long he remained there, drifting through the endless nothing like a leaf on the wind. All he knew was that it was bliss, the utter calm soothing and reassuring as he lay still, thoughts clouded and content with simply existing in this empty place.

There were flashes of red every now and then, gleaming dimly through the night and vanishing again after a couple of seconds. He paid them no mind, the questions that once would've risen to the front of his thoughts smothered and hidden under a blanket of shade that couldn't be penetrated. This was where he was meant to be, and he wasn't going to waste this peace on pointless wondering.
