Clouds Drifting By

Monday morning couldn't have come any faster. I trudge through the door to take my short walk to school. As usual, the sky is cloudy and a light drizzle sprinkles the ground.

I take a deep breath and step onto the sidewalk. Since it isn't raining as hard as it usually does, I don't spot any puddles on my cement path. It's still in the stage of only making the road slick, and water droplets hang onto the grass' ends.

The black street next to me is silent, besides the occasional car driving by. Every time a car whizzes past, splashing a bit of water up, I glance over taking in the different types of vehicles. I don't understand why I enjoy it so much, I just happen to be one of the very few that notice you can tell so much about a person just by their vehicle of choice.

I hear another car approaching but my steps falter when the red mustang that was supposed to pass by, slows down to a halt a few feet ahead of where I was.

The grip I have on my backpack tightens before is speed up my walk.

I quickly trudge past, but my curiosity gets the better of me and I glance up. In the driver's  seat of the car was the one person I wasn't expecting.

Aiden.

Without thinking, I break out into a run, hoping the driver won't see me. Glancing behind me, the red vehicle gains speed, still hugging the curb.

What does this guy want?!

By now my hood had already slipped off of my head, making my loose brown curls whip in the wind behind me.

"Why are you running?" A voice yells from the approaching car.

My heart is thumping in my chest as I try with all my might to get away.

But I guess not even that is good enough.

My foot catches, and I go flying forward, sliding onto the wet cement.

I get up slower than I would have liked, inspecting my now-wet clothing. How am I going to do anything in these?

By the time I come to my senses, Aiden is already out of his car and standing in front of me.

Right away, I attempt to walk around him but he moves in front of me, preventing me from doing so.

I don't understand why this guy is so persistent, we don't even know each other.

"Do you need a ride?" He asks, glancing at my wet clothes.

Is this what chasing me was all about?

Crossing my arms, I glare up at him and shake my head no.

He just stares at me with a blank expression and we watch each other, neither of us breaking eye contact.

Aiden smirks, shaking his head.
"Okay."

Just as quickly as he had come, he was gone. Without another word, he walks out of my way, back into his car and drives off.

I stand where I am, watching the car until it's just a dot in the distance.

This mysterious boy confuses me so much. First he acts persistent and friendly and now he's quick to dismiss?  I sigh.

Whatever.

As much as I want to try and solve the mystery that is Aiden, all I can concentrate on is the fact that I am now soaked. And freezing.

Wait. Did I actually just say I wanted to learn more about someone? No. That can't be right.

Never have I ever thought once about trying to talk to, or be around someone longer than necessary. That rule wasn't going to change because of one person.

Taking my sweater off, I open my backpack and place it inside.

I sigh for the second time today, once again starting my walk to school.

This is going to be a long week.
