I wonder who this Grim person is? But at the moment that's not important. What's important is making sure Bess is Ok. I sat in the chair for a hour when I saw Bess walk right out of her real body.
She looked at me and smiled and said, "Thank you Caleb. You saved my life.""I'm sure you would have done the same thing for me." I said with a smile.
"Yes, you're right I would have, but right now you're the one that saved me."
"Ok. So how are you feeling?"
"Ok I guess. I feel sick, but I don't feel really sick."
"Ok. Why don't you rest for a little bit."
"Yeah, you're right. Wake me up in a hour Ok?"
"Ok." And with that she layed back down and closed her eyes. I soon fell asleep too, but when I woke up there he was. Tall and wearing all black stood Grim. At least I think it's Grim, but I'm pretty sure it's him because he has this I'm-gonna-kill-you aura. I looked around and I'm not in Besses room anymore.
"Where am I?""That is not important right now. Why did you stop me from doing my job?"
"I don't even know what your job is!"
"Really? I thought you would have figured it out by now."
I thought about it for a second.
"You're the Grim Reaper aren't you?""Yes. I'll ask again, why did you stop me from doing my job?"
"She's my friend. Infact my only friend that I've had since waking up a ghost."
"Ok. I can believe that, but that still doesn't give you the right to mess up my job."
"I know, but can you please spare her? Please?"
"Fine, but you still owe me and that I will not forget." And with that he disappeared into thin air. Then I got extremely tired, my eyes closing. Then I woke up on the chair in Besses room. She was still asleep on the bed. I walked over to her and gently woke her up. She sat up so quickly that I jumped back a foot.
"Jeez! You don't have to scare me like that!""Sorry. I'm really jumpy since I woke up as a ghost."
"It's Ok just be careful. You may bonk your head on something if you keep waking up like that" I grinned while saying it. She actually laughed. Then it all came back to me. Can this be a dream or is it real?
"Have you heard of the Grim Reaper?" I asked.
"Yes. Isn't he the one who collects people's souls?"
"Yes"
Bess asked, "What about him?"
"He was the one who was killing you when I stopped him and he left a letter on the chair."
I pulled out the letter and handed it to her.
When she was done reading it she looked at me and said, " Caleb I'm so sorry that you got into this mess. It's all my fault.""What do you mean? How can it be your fault?"
She hesitated, "Never mind let's just forget this ever happened. Ok?"
"Um...Ok. I guess."
Bess asked with a smile, "So is there anything else to do around here or are you bored all the time?"
I laughed. "Come on. I want to show you something."
I grabbed her hand a lead her to the back door of the hospital. I stopped right in front of the door."You ready?" I asked.
"Ready for what?"
"You'll see" I said with a smile. I opened the door and pulled her through. We weren't right outside the hospital. In fact we couldn't even see the hospital any more. Instead there was a giant oak tree surrounded by many different tiny trees. On the Oak tree there was a seam that made a big door.
"What is this place?" Bess asked.
It's the Ghost Forest. It's where every Ghost goes when they exit through a door that leads to the outside world."
"Why do they go here and not right outside the door?"
"That I don't know, but if I ever figure it out you'll be the first to know."
Laughing she said, "Ok."
I started walking with her on my side. After about a half hour of walking she asked, "How do we find our way back to the door on the Oak tree?""We don't we just click our feet three times and say there's no place like home." I said while trying not to laugh, but I couldn't I broke out laughing and Bess started laughing with me.
"No seriously how do we get back?"
"There's a trail that shows up behind you while you're walking away from it and when you walk the way the trail is leading you it disappears. That will lead you back."
"Sounds cool."
"That's because it is." She laughed.
