Ronnie Lacroix

I'm running some mousse through my curls when my iphone starts vibrating. "Logan?" I say frowning at the familiar number, "Do you have any idea what time it is?" He didn't start college till the end of September, and what the hell was he doing awake at such an ungodly hour?

"Ronnie! Oh Ronnie, my love, my soul, this past month away from you has been worse than enduring hell, save me-"

"Logan? Are you drunk?" I ask, trying to stifle a laugh. Logan and I had dated when I was a freshman and he was a junior. We broke up pretty quickly once we realized that we were much better friends than a couple.

His voice returns back to normal as he says, "Naww, Ron, just wanted to tell you that I'm officially all moved into my apartment!"

I roll my eyes. "Logan, you moved into your apartment last week remember?" He graduated last June, but it was surprising when he got accepted in the city just a few miles away from where I was living. I was ecstatic, and he was determined to make my stay in my hometown living hell. "What's the real reason you're calling?

"I'm calling because in about a few days time, yours truly will be coming over! Dee called me last week."

"Seriously? Logan!" I say, happiness rushing through my blood, "Logan why didn't you tell me before?!"

I can literally feel him smirking from over here. "Bye, bish..." he says laughing. I glance back at my phone and shake my head smiling.

I look glance one last time in the mirror before running down the stairs to meet Evie for my ride to school. Most people spend hours figuring out what they want to wear for their first day. But not everyone knows that no one just gives a damn. But, I'd be a hypocrite if I said I hadn't tried a little extra just for the heck of it. My red curls were down, teased to a nice volume. My hair came down a little above my waist. I put a baseball cap on top of that, flipping it backwards. I had also paired an off shoulder black flowy crop top with a pair of acid wash shorts. Did I think this was good enough? Yeah.

I hop in next to Evie in her dad's old car and smile. "Hey," she whispers, biting back an excited smile. It's our first year not as an underclassman. In about five minutes we're heading into school grounds. Almost instantly people start shooting me confused glances, as if remembering me, but not remembering. I shrug it off, and smile at those who point and wave, exclaiming, "Look- Ronnie Lacroix is back in town!"

It's great to be back.

I go to my locker, and grab the things I need for my next classes, even though I'm actually not going to them. Today is a Friday, and we have a welcoming rally where Drill has to perform. And... I'm in drill. It hadn't been hard to convince Ms. Oaks to let me join the advanced drill team after she saw my recommendations and years of experience in dancing. Holly had been quick to teach me the simple routine that we were performing. The welcome rally was pretty down to Earth in general, just a small drill show to get everybody's spirits up, and a few welcoming words.

Can you blame me if I was a bit nervous and excited? Holly and Evie come find me at my locker so they can show me where my classes are. The grounds are crowded with people hugging left and right asking about each other's summers. Evie leaves to go to her class leaving me and Holly to go to the drill room for us to get prepared for the rally. We're walking down the hall when we see Jack. And my heart freezes. He waves us over and Holly laughs as she walks up to him easily. I hadn't seen him since that night in the lake, and just the thought of Jaxon Grace makes my head throb.

After he's done talking to Holly about whatever, his eyes slide over to meet mine. He instantly smirks when he sees the discomfort in my posture. Holly rolls her eyes at our interaction, but that's because I'm sure she doesn't even know the gist of what is happening between us.
