Chapter 11
Blood is spilt
Aurora's head spun as the memories flooded through her body. She completely forgot that she was even standing next to Liam and Stiles anymore as she felt the wind bellow against her face and suddenly, she was back there again, reliving it.
The wind hallowed through the trees, a chilly reminder that October was soon upon them. Aurora watched a couple of autumn leaves dance around in the gust of wind, disappearing into the woods. Aurora turned to her brother, she watched as he picked up a stick and began to draw little circles into the mud. The night was quiet, and Aurora hoped that taking Blade out for a walk would get their minds off their home life. Although Aurora's mother treated Blade like he was her little prince, that he could do no wrong. Lana treated Aurora like she was nothing. There was nothing that Aurora could or couldn't do that would set her mother off. She could breathe in her general direction, and she would not hear the end of it. Yes, every young teen hates their parents and states that their parents yell and scream at them for nothing. But Aurora's mother without a doubt hated her and it left a hole inside Aurora that she felt she could never fill.
Aurora jumped as she saw Blade quickly turn towards her, flinging a pile of mud he had picked up with his stick.
"Blade!" Aurora screamed, just missing the airborne gunk. Blade laughs, not even giving her a moment to recover before he is already slinging mud at her again. This time hitting her directly in the shoulder, "Yuck!"
"Whoops" Blade snickers, the two share a look before Blade instantly takes off. Aurora follows close behind him.
"You're gonna get it now, you little shit" She yells. Aurora soon catches up to him. She grabs him from behind with a hand full of mud, smearing it all over his shirt. Blade groans as he shakes free of her hold.
"Rue! no!" Blade squealed.
"Hey! If I'm going down for coming home dirty, you're going down with me" Aurora laughs, roughing up his hair. Blade bats her hand away.
"Bitch" He mutters, Aurora gasps.
"Hey! Watch your language" Blade rolls his eyes, "You're like five years old"
"I'm Ten" He rolls his eyes once again, trying his best to swipe the mud from his shirt.
"Still- you don't need to be swearing" Aurora pulls him into a side hug as the two-start walking through the woods.
"Whatever" Blade hides a smile as he pulls out of Aurora's grip, "First one to the edge of the forest wins" Aurora huffs before taking off after him once again. The wind felt cool against Aurora's flushed skin, the adrenaline coursed through her veins as she dogged oncoming tree branches and bounced off rocks. It was nights like this that Aurora genuinely looked forward too, being with the one person on his earth that truly loved her. Aurora and Blade never spoke of her mother's abuse, but they both knew. It wasn't long before Aurora caught up with Blade, he was stopped in the middle of a clearing.
"What's wrong blade outta' breath already?" She chuckled, reaching a handout to his shoulder. Aurora's eyes furrowed when he didn't reply. He looked pale- like he had seen a ghost. "What is it?"
Again, he did not reply. His eyes were fixated on something behind her. Aurora took a sharp breath and turned in the direction her brother was looking. And at first, she didn't notice it, but then her eyes adjusted to the dark and instantly she lost her breath. Her chest tightened and suddenly she felt lightheaded. Because there, swallowed in darkness he stood. She almost didn't recognize him at first, he looked different. He almost looked dead if she was being honest. His entire face and body covered in scars- which Aurora could instantly they were the cause of a wolf.
"It's been a long time" His voice made Aurora's hairs stand on edge, "You weren't who I was expecting but you'll work just fine" His name was Michael Kindynos. He was one of her father's Beta's. Key word- was. He no longer wanted to stand below her father and so he challenged him. And of course, her father won and so they banished Michael.
"You aren't supposed to be here" Aurora choked, fear flooded through her. Michael grinned; his eyes glazed over in a crimson red which caused Aurora to swallow any chance of hope. Michael had clearly been through hell and back to win Alpha elsewhere. And she could only imagine why he had come back. "Please, leave us alone"
The look on his face made Aurora sick to her stomach, "You're scared" his lips curled up into a smile, that send ice cold shivers down her spine, "Good"
Time was such a funny concept, when you're so young you feel like you have all the time in the world. And it was that day that Aurora had truly ran out of time. If only she had more time to react, more time to decide to run, more time to save him. Blade's body stood there for a moment after the attack before the contents of his stomach spilled out onto the ground. Michael was fast and he was strong and before it had even begun it was over. Aurora fell to the ground as she tried so hard to grab a hold of her brother as he went down. Her hands were covered in blood, and she could do nothing but shake him. Hoping that somehow, he would wake up, but he just lay there. His eyes stared straight through her soul with no emotion.
"No" Aurora cried because there in her arms lay her little brother, he did not draw another breath and deep-down Aurora felt something inside her snap, she felt nothing but pure rage. Aurora stood from her place on the ground, her chest rose and fell rapidly. The one person in the entire world that she truly loved with her whole heart, gone. Within seconds the best thing in her life slipped between her fingers and all she saw was red.
Michael turned away from the two, happy with his work. He snickered to himself as he licked the blood from his fingers. He felt accomplished- he had killed the son of the man he despised. Michael was so caught up in his own victory that he didn't even notice Aurora. He didn't even notice until her fingertips gripped his heart, ripping it from his chest cavity. Aurora's father had once told her what it was like to kill someone. It was one night in winter; he had stumbled home drunk. He spoke with such emptiness, like he wasn't even speaking to her but instead reliving it himself. He sat there and he told her it felt powerful to take a life. To hold their life in your hands, to watch their body fall to the ground, to watch their soul drift from their eyes. But Aurora felt none of that- she felt nothing. She felt nothing when his body fell to the floor, she felt nothing as she watched his heart stop pumping in her very own hands. Aurora felt nothing but emptiness. And in the night as innocent blood was spilled, baptized in blood, the young Beat became the Alpha.
