Prologue

My heart hammered against my rib cage as sweat stuck to my forehead. My name was being called in the distance but I ignored it. Nothing they did could bring him back.

I had ran so far that there was no urban life around me. The quiet only made it worse. I collapsed on the ground and let tears fall from my deep blue eyes.

My body shook as I cried. I tried to hold myself together but every time I tried to stop, he came back into my mind. I couldn't evolve without him.

His beautiful green eyes. His sweet, comforting voice. His smooth, lemon- basil smelling hair. The way his hand fit in mine. The way he held me in his arms. His face when he was angry. His face when he was upset. He was always there for me.

I slammed my fist on the ground and sobbed even harder. He's gone because of me.

Connor died because of me.
