Unrequited Love

We strolled past the frozen ponds, glistening slightly in the broad daylight. A few kids shouted merrily as they chased each other with icy snowballs in their swollen hands. Snow decorated every furniture and grass in this town. The sun was peeking behind the brewing heavy dark clouds.

The young man who I walked with suddenly stopped and sighed. A lingering puff of smoke came out due to the cold temperature. His cheeks were a bright pink and his skin was silky white as milk. His sparkled dilated blue eyes peered at me with apparent disinterest. He had a slight grimace on his face, but I have known long enough that was his natural expression. The boy's defensive stance immediately registered a thought I pondered for as long as he lived.

This was the child I was told to take care of until the day he will leave. But, unfortunately, I cared deeply for this child. So much, that I loved him, but he could not since his heart was as frozen as ice. They say unrequited love causes you to move on, but I couldn't.
