Chapter 3:

Maria POV:

Today is the day of the results, I've been nervous since the day of the exam. I woke up early in the morning, I couldn't sleep well; after taking a shower and brushing my teeth, I turned on the laptop and googled the results site, Ah not yet.

I sent Angela a message asking her about any news, she didn't reply, I bet she's still asleep.

I made my way to the kitchen, my grandma is making breakfast, my favorite dishes.

"Where is dad?" I asked, searching around.

"He isn't up yet, I think he still has a light fever" she replied with sad smile.

My dad's still suffering from stress and sleepless nights, I went into my dad's room without knocking.

"Dad, you're awake. Good morning"

"Good morning, sorry sweetheart. I can't be with you today, you are a brilliant girl and I'm proud of you whatever the results are. And I will always love you" he says with a heavy sigh and closes his eyes.

"Dad, I love you too. Sorry for waking you up, I'm just a little nervous. But don't worry about me now" I kissed his forehead "And get well soon, I already miss your pancakes" I joked. My father closed his eyes and drifted back to sleep.

I made my way to my room trying to control my sobs. My life was always centered on my father; he took care of me since I was two years old, since she left us. My dad never talks about her, and when I ask him he always talks good of her always trying to make me love her. My so called mother left us to marry a rich man, and never come back or asked about me, I bet she can't recognize me if she saw me in the streets. My father never remarried and we were living with grandma since then. He was more than a father to me, a close friend; we joked and laughed together, and I've never kept any secrets from him.

The last three years were hell to him, he fell sick due to stress and overwork.

I get dressed up quickly and went to my high school, students were gathering around the entrance, their heads up searching their names on the huge board. I heard my name whispered around, and some people shot me with recognizing glances. I struggled to get on the head of the crowd and tried to adjust my sight. My name was in the head of the first column, I was classed the third in my state. I jumped instantly from happiness making victory cries, after I calmed down a bit, I searched my classmate's results starting with Angel, Yes we made it!!. Angel was the second, she's really brilliant.

"Hey Angel, we made it" I cried after spotting her.

"Yeah, I was so freaking nervous. And you know what does that mean?"

"What?"

"Tonight. 7pm. My house. We are celebrating"

"Deal" I answered.

I come back home squealing and yelling.

"I made it, dad, grams...... I made it" I laughed hard.

I got into the kitchen, the living room the balcony, but no one was there. I went upstairs and to my dad's room, he was laying staring in the void.

"Dad?" I whispered, I don't want to bother him seeing his state of health and instantly regretted my yelling earlier. My grandma was sitting beside his bed and wiping her tears.

"What's going on? Every things okay?" I asked concerned.

"Yes sweetheart, congratulating I'm so proud of you. You are the best.... I love you sweetheart, take care of yourself" my dad says in a coughing way.
